International Air tickets _ Economy Class
Intro
With AirTravel getting popular, nowadays it is cheaper to fly abroad for a Holiday than travel from Chennai to say New Delhi!. Also many parents visit their sons/daughters etc in U.S Britain etc. This article will help you to get the best deal for air tickets, if planned well in advance.
Booking
Most Airlines as economy measure stopped the Travel Agent's commission, and reduced the free luggage ( specially to U.S). Your Travel Agents will charge at least 5 to 10% more and the ticket does not show the true amount paid. So next choice is Online Booking at various travel sites.
some hints.
For example I will check a return flight from sayChennai (MAA) to BOS (Boston)
(1) Select a day preferably Monday to Thursday. Weekend fares are more !
(2) Decide to have at least more than one stop enroute. (fares for direct Nonstop flight costlier usually)
(3) As per regulations, each Airline can book passsengers to any destination and must have a Halt at their country of origin. (Example Lufthansa, Malaysia, etc.)
(4) If en route HALT is at an airfield (say Heathrow London LHS) you pay more extra charges for Landing/Take off fees.
(5) If ticket/s are purchased in India, additional taxes also levied.
(6) Avoid Peak season Travel if you can . usually Christmas/New YeaR/ Summer seasons etc.
Booking the ticket/s ONLINE
I had checked various on line booking sites, and for the same TRAVEL PLAN , different charges are quoted.
Try expedia.com ( also expedia.in)
http://matrix.itasoftware.com/
Clearmytrip.com. etc. It is unlikely you will find Fares of AIRINDIA competitive even now !
In a recent case, elderly parents (2) saved approx Rs 8000/=, buying.online.
Caution
Some tickets if cancelled or changed, may involve heavy penalties (even if booked with travel Agents!).
I hope this SHORT article is found useful by members.
