Default Campus Politics... Do we need it?

If you ask me what is the worst thing that can happen to a campus, my answer would be Politics....

Do we really need politics in our campuses?
Surely as students we have our rights, why do we need the backing of a political party to attain them?

What is the price we have to pay?
Often it is the blood of the students that the politics takes in return....
The parties takes them to demonstrations, picketing and so on outside the campuses.... Make them the scapegoats....

Finally who has to bear the losses?
    The parents...
They work day and night and send their children to school only to be used by the parties for self gains....
As long as the party needs them, they will shelter the students...
If any of them is suspended for illegal activities, they come out with strikes, mass cuts and what not.....
There are many who do all sorts of barbarism on behalf of the parties, like ragging, destruction of public property.....

Undoubtedly the politics in our country stinks.... Do we want our next generation to learn and do the same?

Student association is good to promote the sense of cooperation.... But these associations must not come under the shadow of politics....

Think..... Do we need Campus Politics?

As long as there are elections in campus for student bodies, there will be politics.

Aspiring politicians and children of established politicians treat college politics as training ground for the higher echelons.

Political demonstrations and other such issues are external events triggered by outside bodies. These cannot be helped.

The problem is when a sensible individual joins a crowd, s/he gets influenced. The average IQ of the crowd is less than 50.

Think about an External affairs minister in 2050 who never had any political experience in his college days.. Think about the complicated global politics.. Experiences is what makes a person what he/she is today or will be in future.. You could read all the books in the world but untill you do something practically your knowledge will have limitations.

I personally think that those who will lead this nation in 10 years time should now be fighting amongst peers to get recognition at the grass root level.. Why do you think of politics to be any different then say Mathematics or Physics or History?

We need a new generation of politicians and they will all come out of these student unions of today.. where else?

Well said admin. I think politics shall be there in colleges. So that our coming generations can know how to make themselves for the country. But along with it. There shall be a series of tests of personality development of these guys and gals. And trainin and the results shall be made public. So that they can take seriously the things that come into line. The same principals shall be applied to senior politicians of state as well. Results of these trainings shall be impartial and confirm to standards prescribed by election commission of India.

I think there should be politics in campus. It is a part of our democracy. But it should be well controlled and monitored that it should be productive and student resources are not wasted by pelting stones at the line bus.

You mean law and order should be maintained right? I agree if that's what you mean.

Students should be taught that the property of government is their own property and by harming public property they are not harming anyone but themselves.. Those people who actually damage public/private properties are not really politicians... they are people with no understanding of whats what and just vent out their frustration of being a loser in life at anything that comes across when they are in a mob and feel good about it.

I too agree experience is the best teacher anyone can get. But this expereince shouldn't come at the cost of violence and mass cuts. The system of politics in colleges as of today must be changed.

The reason I started a topic like this was because I studied in a college where politics was misused for personal gains.

I will tell an incident. Once a student(a party goonda, I should say), turned off the lighting to a block of our college from the main board over the effect of some liquor. One Lecturer happened to see this and reported the same to the Principal. Being a Lecturer, she wasn't to be doubted. So the principal suspended him for one week or so for this.

Guess what happened then. We were forced to mass cut classes the next day. They began demanding the withdrawal of suspension and threatened to disrupt classes until then. Eventually what happened was that suspension was revoked and the hooligan let in. The Management cannot be blamed, as they had no other choice. The exams were about 3 weeks from then and they could not risk the lives of students who came to college to study.

This is only an example how politics was misused in my college. If this is how they breed the politicians of tomorrow, then where the future of India...!!!

The problem is that student movements is not practised in a good manner in India..
In other countries there are student commitees, where students of different streams come and share thoughts. It starts up with normal competetion where students present their thoughts about society. Than if someone is seen to be very strong in his/her views than he is chosen for subsequent developments.

Everything is practised in a fair way. there is no manner to chose someone from the same caste or creed, or so called minority.. everyone does everything boldly, and respects other views.

Thats the case at small level.. although some kinds of Berlusconi or Clinton may happen in the very future, but at that point of time, they are able to make some good administrators, those who can designate their country.. atleast they know how to deal with foreign people.
