Default CMOS or CCD which is better for SLR?

Ok, before Diwali, i wanted to buy a SLR. (I have a Canon but it is too expensive and good to be used).

I went to the shop where he shown me some cheap SLRs from Fujifilm. I am happy with its performance, but still have some basic confusions regarding the processors of these camera.

What i think is that CCD is better than CMOS, but these cameras from Fuji have cmos processing. I am afraid to post such a stupid question on a Photo forum, so asking here..

    Please help me..

    For DSLR, stick to:

    1. Canon
    2. Nikon

CMOS is the newer technology. I do not think that you should spend sleepless nights over the two technologies. You should take sample pictures on these cameras, take the pic home on a USB stick and do detailed analysis.

Canons CMOS sensors are believed to be better than CCD, they have invested a fortune to make this happen. moreover in CMOS you can do any complex operation as in processor. so advanced noise canceling algorithms can be implemented right on the sensor, an additional advantage of CMOS is low power consumption. so i think you can safely buy a CMOS sensor based DSLR. But I am not sure of a FUJI DSLR

Sony isn't one of the cheap DSLR you are looking for, their alpha 500comes @ $690 and they have CMOS sensors, quite good picture quality. My friend's bought it in US waiting for him to come!!

    My sincere advice:

20 or 25 K is still a lot of money. It is not worth to spend so much money in a situation where you may feel later "oh .... I wish I had spent a little more and then I would have ....".

The same thought processs went into my recent car purchase ... I feel that I overspent but at least I have no regrets otherwise.

So if there are doubts, hold on to the spending.

But there is another quote by someone (I forget who), I read about photographers some years ago:
Ordinary photographers worry about equipment. They think that better equipment will produce better pictures. Professionals, on the other hand worry about the moment. Some of my best pictures have been from a simple point and shoot camera.

Thanks j4k for your advices..you really helped me save me money..

i went today to the market(i was caught in viral fever) and saw some models,.. but as you said that once you invest in something cheaper, you always regret buying it, and think of buying something better at a later point... so i wasnt able to judge the cams.. they were all not good at 25k.. so i have given up the thought..

maybe i will buy a ham radio next year, because i really like it.. i have license exams too..so that will be a cheaper alternative to my experimenting kid..

the worst part of my situation was that i have myself a canon...but i am not using it..
