    Default Hdfc bank good?

    Hi

I am 19 and i want to have a Debit Card i.e HDFC Bank.

So i was wondering if HDFC bank is good?

Bank like ICICI loots people by taking some unknown TOS charges during transcations and idk what on....

So was wondering, for kid like me is HDFC bank good enough?

The reason which i want to choose HDFC is because its near to my house.

(I Intend to link it with my Paypal)

HDFC bank is good until u get your head into their credit card.
Currently I use HDFC account and I'm a satisfied customer.

I have been using it with PayPal, no issues so far.....

I just want to use Debit Card.

Wanted to know, do they take charges for Debit Card?

& do they deduct any money from your bank account every year?

I've been a satisfied HDFC bank customer for nearly 4 years now. As hitler517 said, they charge Rs. 100 for the ATM Debit Card. Apart from that no other hidden charges if you follow the rules and keep the quarterly minimum balance of Rs. 10 K. Axis Bank is good too.

    Minimum balance of 10k??

I have a salary account at the moment and it is a zero balance account.
Couple of weeks back, they rang me up and asked if I was interested in starting a zero balance personal account. They also said I need to deposit Rs.5000 for a day and after which I can withdraw the amount.

Yes, for salary account it's zero balance. Even I had one in the Citi bank. However, for normal savings account in HDFC, Axis, ICICI etc. 10 k balance is defacto... Sometimes they promote by offering zero balance or 5 K. After one year or so, they'll convert it in the 10 K. This has happened to me with the present HDFC account. Kotak bank is offering me a trinity account with zero balance for one year. I'm thinking of opening one there and closing the HDFC. Why not invest that 10 K somewhere else where I believe I can get more return.

Most banks now offer a Zero Balance Account on payment of a fixed annual charges. The account can be opened with an initial deport of 5000 to 6000 from which the first year charges are deducted and the balance can be withdrawn.

I have a Zero Balance Account with Axis Bank. Annual Charges 500 plus service tax. Free Debit Card, Free mobile banking, Free internet banking (including transactions), Free quarterly statements included in the annual charges.

Even HDFC has some strange T&Cs. One of my friend was shocked to find out that the Bank imposes restrictions on Cash deposit in Salary accounts. It also charges for certain services which are free in case of other banks.

I have salary account, demat account and internet trading account with ICICI for the last 11 years. Never had any issue till date.

This is where State Bank of India could have made a large difference...

I found signing up for an account with SBI the easiest.....

Only thing is they don't offer the VISA or MasterCard to ordinary customers....

Everyone should have an account in the banks like SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara bank, Allahabad, Indian Bank etc as a backup to these other set of private banks. You never know when you get pissed off by the HDFCs and ICICIs.

One of my friends grand-dad was issued a Gold card by HDFC bank. Whole family got irated when they saw that Rs. 500 +tax was deducted for that card. The relationship manager of HDFC bank should have some sense that what will a retired man do with the Gold debit card.

Apart from that most of the above mentioned banks require Rs. 1000 as minimum balance.

It would have been great if SBI issued MasterCard to the customers rather than the Maestro Card....

^^ Yeah, many times I've felt same. However, wots the big deal? We only have to type the PIN when using Maestro. Perhaps I've forgotten the reasons why I longed for Master Card or Visa as I rarely use SBI now. Could you recall why you don't like Maestro?

It's not like I have problems with Maestro....

The thing I long for MasterCard or VISA is that they can be used for online shopping, PayPal etc......

I have two accounts with AXIS (one for about 15 years, when it was UTI Bank).
In my experience, Axis is far better than ICICI or HDFC. But now that it is headed by an Ex-ICICI employee, can't say for how long it would remain to be so.

I am using HDFC Bank account from last 4 years now and till now never faced any problem with them, got a good network of ATM's with quick access to customer service (whenever its required). To intigrate your HDFC with paypal you have to create a VCC (Virtual Credit Card) on HDFC netbanking portal, VCC is an prepaid card and works as good as a Visa credt card when used online.
