Default how to convert normal sim card to micro sim?

    Dear All,
I am using normal sim card of Airtel in my current phone ( Nokia E63).
Since my new phone Nexus 5 requires micro sim, So can the regular sim be cut/converted into micro.
There are posting on net that regular sim ( 15x25 mm) can be easily (?) cut in to micro (12x15 mm) using paper cutter/die cutter etc.
Further the micro sim thus converted or procured afresh can be used as normal sim by using an adapter.
I will be thankful for replies from persons who have first hand knowledge of 1. Conversion using cutter 2. Die cutter 3. Adapter.
Pl provide authentic source/s to procure die cutter/adapter also.
    Thanks
    Devesh Arora

I got mine cut from a mobile phone shop who charged me Rs20 and it took 10 seconds. Spend the 20 instead of trying it yourself.

All mobile shops and recharge shops can make your normal sim into a micro sim. It doesn't cost much either I think its Rs20 or Rs30.

Near enough all mobile phone shops and recharge shops can change sim cards into micro sim cards. Mostly probably your local recharge shop would be able to do it for you.

Can the micro sim also be reversed back to a normal sim card as well?

Adapters are available in the market, howver if you could slide in the contacts (except for the push type slots), you dont need an adapter. Just slide it into position, and it will work.

Its a small plastic casing, that resemble a normal SIM card. It has the slot to accomodate the macro SIM, which will match with the SIM contacts in the phone.

    Hi devesh,
I think you should take your SIM card to some mobile shop as this is done at almost every mobile shop now,
and you are definitely going to get your work done. I suggest you not to cut it by yourself as its too risky and you might end up damaging your SIM. The dimensions you mentioned above are correct but its advised to get your work done by a specialist. Good luck!

You can either cut it from the shop or go replace the sim with a new detachable one which can be removed to a micro Sim or fitted to a normal one.

Thanks for this information. My friend was looking for one. So, it works the same way as micro SD card adapter works. I used it in my digital camera, just put the micro SD card in the adapter and use it in the camera. That sounds great.

I took a BSNL SIM card two days back and shop owner told me that it is micro SIM. But it just fits into my Samsung mobile phone. It is as big as a normal SIM and finally I found that it is actually a micro SIM in the outfit of a normal SIM

that is called a "Jacket SIM" which can be used as a mini-SIM (normal size), micro-SIM or even sometimes as nano-SIM.
