Default Is cricket more important than national security?

The other day when i was watching a private news channel, they first decided show the news related to cricket first as the most important news and later they showed about india scrapping a integrated missile program, which of course is a major news for the nation's security. Instead of showing this as the most important news of the day, they put more value to the cricket! Is cricket more imp. than national security. I am of late getting more frustrated and angry with the way cricket has been hyped in india, especially the media, considering those high-paid players performing even par below the level of zimbabwe or even lesser everytime.

I have posted my views on some other thread on Indian News Channels. I consider most of them - and for want of a more suited word - pathetic.

Even when giving out the cricket news, a lot of it was crap. For instance, they harped on the point on the umpire taking word of Ponting for a claimed catch. The channels said that umpire did not go to the third umpire - what they failed to mention was that rival captains had agreed to take the fielder's word for questionable catches. No doubt Australians were unfair, boorish, arrogant and cheaters; but this should have been stated instead of saying that umpire failed to do his duty. The umpires did fail at other instances but that is another story.

Secondly, news channels will always use pre-loaded words and statements to present a story that looks right from one view point only. This is more than true of Indian TV News Channels. To know how loaded words can make a news item seem correct from one angle only, I will advise everybody to read the excellent British TV Comedy - Yes, Minister (the book is even more funnier than the TV show).

But I digress. While you are right in saying that something concerning our national security should have precedence over some game, you must also remember that "bad news" is "good news".
