I have a Genuine Windows XP on my home PC. I don't believe in piracy at all. All my software, DVDs, VHS are geniune. I have some movies on VHS which are recorded but they are for my personal viewing only.

The other day my wife brought a bootlegged copy of 5 movies on one DVD - I refused to watch it and I could see the quality was absolute crap.

I prefer original because of the issues you might get with the pirated ones, as it might be cheaper or free during initial stages but later it could create a bigger issue where you might end up paying more than the original's price!!

Are you able to get updates from Microsoft with your copy of Windows/XP?

Yes same as the genuine user. Till now i tried IE7, New Calculator,Win Media Player 11, out of which i use calculator rite now. I really dont install the security updates coz those really not that helpful..instead i have KIS (Kapsersky Internet Security pro.....ofcourese not legal copy) which is absolutely rocking.

i respect ur view abt the piracy...but everyone just can't afford buying everything coz i really have limited needs which are extremely personal.I Just dont wanna get into any debate, but i think cracking/tweaking is OK for extremely personal use & u shudn't make it as business, which normally many do. in nutshell piracy in limited manner is ok for personal use, but the mentality of gaining benefit out of it thru its commercialization is pretty awful.

If thats hadrware/durables realated then i am agreed with u. but i really dont think it shud be the case with the Software.

In Essence, Piracy will remain there u will or will not. No one can erase it, no government,no institution, no person.(I am here considering Piracy as universal word). Though It can be reduced to some extent.

@logik, But don't you see that you are encouraging piracy by saying:

i respect ur view abt the piracy...but everyone just can't afford buying everything coz i really have limited needs which are extremely personal.I Just dont wanna get into any debate, but i think cracking/tweaking is OK for extremely personal use & u shudn't make it as business, which normally many do. in nutshell piracy in limited manner is ok for personal use, but the mentality of gaining benefit out of it thru its commercialization is pretty awful.
Digital media is extremely easy to copy and that makes piracy so rampant. When you purchased your PC, did you or did you not spend Rs. 25-30K or more? And is it not because hardware cannot be copied? So why can't you spend Rs. 6500 extra on the genuine OS? Piracy is not about just saving money - it is an attitude to life.

I am not angry or shouting. I am stating the above in my most calm voice and sincerely ask you - think again and be fair. OK. MS is a big corporation but there are other small companies/individuals also who earn livelihood by software.

Well sir, i think u missed my point........i already made it clear that, i hate the piracy in mass scale or commercailly....one more thing i forgot to scale last time about the s/w developed by the local/small group.........i simply dont use them & never try to get anything crack related to that...all the products i use are all belong to the well known groups/companies.....in this case i keep myself bound

Hi logik, we are all equal here so no need to address me as 'Sir'.

You are missing the bigger picture. You may not be using the software for commerical purposes but you are using it. Does that really justify your case?

Suppose you are running a garden nursery for business and someone steals your nice roses (just to offer it in his prayers or maybe decorate his home) - how would you feel?

Someone has lost money out of a legitimate income - small company/big corporation is besides the argument.

By agreeing to use a pirated copy, you have participated in an offence. The person who gave you the pirated copy is equally guilty.

Anyway, do what your conscience tell you to do. Let us not debate further.

p/s. I too used to own a pirated XP but I thought better and purchased a legal copy.

I will be buying the legal version definately the day i can......i know honesty is the best policy

    PS :
    1. well i was just checking whether i am able to put my points & i think i am not completely disappointed with myself. ha ha

    2. Sir is why i used coz of ur age (m not calling u Uncle : D), ur knowledge, & ur Experience. Definitely we are at the same level & we will remain.
