And most unlike me - this time I did not buy a single DVD from my US trip - I sought the shelves and found nothing worth buying![]()
Yesterday I purchased "Lord of the Rings - Trilogy - Extended cut DVD set". There are 12 DVDs in all. I purchased it on eBay for Rs. 1980 + shipping. I used my 10% discount coupon.
(Yes. I do have the original DVDs of the trilogy in its theatrical release. But I wanted to see the extended version wherein "The Fellowship of the Ring" has extra 50 minutes, "The Two Towers" has extra 43 minutes and "The Return of the King" has extra 32 minutes.)
This weekend, I am planning to see the "The Chronicles of Narnia - Price Caspian" in the theater.

12 DVDs! By the way, is there anything really special in the Extended version?
By the way, I see that you haven't got The Dreamers; now that is a movie that should be downloaded first once you get a fast internet connection.
The Dreamers (2003)
The Dreamers (film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
This is a movie that could never be made in India, and not because the censor board would not allow it, but because I think we simply don't have this culture yet.
I don't think it will be available in India (at least, if it is censored, then there is nothing left in that movie); you'll probably have to download it, and if you do, find a better print, 2 CD version or above.
And please... it is not a porn movie; it has a lot of such scenes, but it is a serious film.
@hydraheaded, For quite some time (last 3 years in fact), I used to see the LOTR trilogy extended cut DVD set on the shelves and online. I thought that it is just a marketing gimmick - add a few scenes here and there, some commentaries, storyboards/drawings and ask the users to pay (heavily) for the same.
Then one day, a friend of mine gave me a (pirated) copy of the LOTR-ROTK DivX copy. When I saw how much the extended version differed from the theatrical version, I was just blown away. So yes. THE EXTENDED SET IS REALLY WORTH THE MONEY - take this from a movie buff.
The whole extended movies are approached by a very different approach - they have been made as if as a new movie. Many backfills have been given that make you understand some of the main scenes of the movie. Each movie is a 4-disc set - the first 2 discs contain the movie. Now because the movie is split in two discs it has less compression (original movie/3+ hrs/1 disc, extended cut/nearly 4 hrs/2 discs) and hence it is also better in quality - also the DTS-ES track is added and almost 7 hours of extra material, guides, atlas'es, etc. on the 2 extra discs per movie.
Buy it and see for yourself and then see.
I will check up on this movie. Thanks for the links.Originally Posted by HydraHeaded;23914By the way, I see that you haven't got The Dreamers; now that is a movie that should be downloaded first once you get a fast internet connection.

So u beat me in this concept, I have some 125 GBs of DVD-RIP movies, and still have 80 GB harddisk free, when I'll get my hands on 849 NU, I'll download Just4kix's favourite movies.
Salute dude, what a collection??
I appreciate d concept of buying it from stores and not living a LEECHER's life!!!
Chinmay,
As said before, I have been collecting for a nearly 10 years. I have a full fledged home theatre at home with projector and watch movies on a 8' by 4.5' screen (110" diagonal). Hence it is important that I have the finest quality of source (video/audio). What is the point of having a good hardware and inferior source?
Player you make my eyes bleed with your bold text
Hell .... Nice collection J4K ......You have inspired my own list ....
Cheers

Awesome! have you watched them all? which one is your favorite? which one you've watched the most number of times?
My favourites are all (well most) of them really. I can't decide - it will mean gross injustice to others. I will put up a poll soon.
This is such a long mouth-watery list. You got a diverse taste!
good collection...........but mine is over 650.......i dnt get time to update the movie list or to watch them.............i am too busy downloading...........thanks to BSNL and aXXo(FOR THE DVDRIP MOVIES)
Great collection just4kix
Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie of all time.
i was wishing that this movie have some more parts.
now, its really nice to know that it has extended version
although i cant spend 2000Rs for it, i will find an alternate. ( may be torrent)
lolz suvo....:asshole:
this person is thanking BSNL and aXXo
how can u expect LOTR to have more parts. The main book written by J.R.R.Tolkien has three parts and the three movies are based on it.
If u want more info on the "middle-earth" or contemporary culture/legends , then read the other books written by the same author.
The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, The history of middle earth vol.1&2.
The Hobbit deals with the events leading to Bilbo's acquiring the RING while the others are collection of events/stories that had to be left out from the main LOTR books. I have read all of them and I can assure u , if u like LOTR, just go buy those books. Its worth it. All the questions u had about LOTR will be answered.
Really huge collection .
well, just4kix said that he has an extended version of LOTR....., so i commented.
somebody advised to see movie "The Dreamers" here.
i advice you ppl, never to watch this ridiculous movie.
its really an a**h*le movie
the worst thing is that, after movie is over, it still running in your mind and you keep on saying yourself why did i saw this movie.....
@aasmaforu
