WoW youve spent a lot of money on that collection.
I have never been a big fan of movies and hardly ever went to cinema halls but I recently bought a bigger tv and set up 5.1 sound system with it and have been watching some movies on it latelyIt makes so much of a difference having better sound quality with good video quality ... makes you want to watch more and more.
I still havent bought any movies so just been watching wantever is on TV. Will go and buy some soon![]()
No need to buy. One can rent.
But blu ray is something that you may not get on rent (at least not that easily).
If you decide to buy, do not buy locally in India. DVDs/BDs are very expensive here. Instead, source them from Amazon.co.uk. (Refer my threads on this).
What TV and 5.1 system do you have? I confess that I am still with CRT TV.
I recently bought a Sony NX520 40 inch and set it up with bose lifestyle 48 system. The TV is new but Ive had the bose for some time now but never got around to set it up with a TV earlier and only used it to play some music once in a while but I have evolved and understood what it should really be used for nowWatching a movie on Star movies HD is a treat with this setup. My dad watches Kirtan on TV every evening and he appreciates the fact that tabla and harmonium sounds come out of different directions

I also have a sony 1000 watts home theater system that was earlier set up with the computer (dont ask me why because I dont know myself ) and now it is set up with a Samsung 32 inch tv.
This setting up of music systems with a TV is a recent development at my home as I had really no interest in watching movies earlier and never really thought that using them with a TV would be of any use.... ha ha ha All I ever watched earlier was some business channels or news thats all. For the record I dont have any movie dvds at home so never really thought that the home theater system has a dvd player for a reasonThe dvd player we were using with the TV was a Rs1500 piece from china with no brand name on it. Our bijli wala got it for me back in the days and thats what we used to play all the wedding videos. Wedding videos is all we used to play really.
I also have another system from a company called Birco but thats really just annoying sound or noise producing machine rather then a music system so its eating dust somewhere in the store room.
Its a Sony DAV-DZ340K that is set up with the Samsung TV.
The Sonys', Samsungs', LGs', etc. do a decent job of a small HT.
As far as Bose Lifestyle 48 is concerned, I only wish that you had consulted me before. When did you buy this system?
I would have advised you against the Bose Lifestyle 48. It is not that LS-48 is bad, but the amount of money Bose prices this (close to 3 lakh in India or US$ 6250) is attrocious. It is definitely not worth that much. I can recommend systems that cost half as much as sounding much better:
a) Panasonic 3D Blu Ray Player DMP-BDT110 (or 111): Approximate street price: Rs. 12,500
b) Denon AVR-1912: Approximate street price Rs. 42,000
c) Wharfedale Diamond 10.4 5.1 package exactly as shown below: Approximate street price Rs. 85,000/-
d) Very good quality Oxygen free Speaker Cables: Approximate street price Rs. 250/meter; no more than 20 m required; so Rs. 5,000
Total Price: Rs. 1,44,500
And what do we get from the above:
- A BDP that is capable of playing DVDs, BDs and 3D-BDs (LS-48 can play DVDs only)
- A full fledged AV receiver that can decode Dolby Prologic, Dolby PLzII, Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital +, Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES and of course true HD audio - Dolby TruHD and DTS HD Master Audio.
- Total music power of 125W x 7 channels (6 Ohms 20Hz to 20kHz) as against unpublished figures of LS-48
- HDMI 1.4a with 3D Pass-through,ARC with 6 HDMI in / 1 HDMI out with GUI
- Exceptionally good speaker system that is quite true at sub-freq (20Hz to 150 Hz), low freq(150-2000 Hz), mid-range and top. Bose is bad at mid-range and sub-freq.
But don't feel bad. "Experts" have been duped by the "Bose" name tag.
