Rep Power: 2 | Is there any good news came out of the today's railway budget submitted by lalu yadav. I heard that there have many concessions given to AC class and first class. I feel that it has been prepared with the elections in mind. Anyway did he announce about wi-fi enabled trains this budget or at least wi-fi enabled railway stations? |

| Platinum Member | Note that the slash on AC fares (AC-1: 7% and AC-2: 4%) will be halved (AC-1: 3.5% and AC-2: 2%) during peak periods. Also for popular mail-express trains the half-rate applies for all seasons. What does this mean? 1. The railways have classified 455 mail-express trains as popular trains. This is almost all of them. 2. Non-peak periods are months of February, March and August. So for the rest 9 months we will pay higher fares. The jugglery has been very carefully planned and laid out. However, all said and done, all credit to LPY for turning around railways. Even if we consider that AC-fares' reduction is not all roses, there is still a reduction and this is great improvement from not increasing the fares. All news and dailies have called it as an "Election Express" but this is more than populism - people have been given concessions on the basis of a record profit and this "subsidy" will not add to any budget deficit. All eyes on Mr. PC now.

Rep Power: 12 | I would have been happy if they would have set aside some money to keep our stinking trains a bit cleaner.. Have you seen the state of our railway stations? The only train I have traveled in the near past is the Delhi - Amritsar Shatabdi and its just not good enough.. railways needs to make that extra effort to bring the service to an international standard... By the way they serve cornflakes with hot milk for some reason of their own |
