    Default Whirlpool fridge

I bought a whirlpool fridge back in the month of March and ever since its been call after call to whirlpool and all they have given me is lip service.

The fridge I bought was 340litres elite iceberg and they took more then a week to deliver it and that too after god knows how many calls.

Problems dont end just here.. the fridge that was delivered was faulty and those guys who came to deliver it were not ready to take it back saying you need to call whirlpool .. Called whirlpool and it took them more thne 15 days to send an engineer to check it out and as previously told the door just wont shut completely so the whirlpool guy sent a request for replacement which happened about another 20 days later and that too after more then 50 calls from my end.

Guess what... the fridge they send is a different make and its got a number of faults.. as mentioned in the broucher the fans dont shut when the door is opened. the control knob inside the freezer compartment doesnt even work and above all this is not the model I paied for.

Then we started all over again and hundreds of calls and two whirlpool guys visited and said this is a faulty peice and should be replaced... easier said then done.. I have been calling Whirlpool for the last 4 months and this peice of **** is still here which is no good to me.

This moron called Manoj Pawar at whirlpool who doesn't know how to behave to a customer promised me that I will get a refund within 15 days and since then its been more then a month and no sign of a refund.
I called whirlpool again today and spoke to Manoj Pawar who spoke to me as if I am asking for a favour and he goes aise baat karoge to fir mil gaya refund... This followed by a number of insulting comments which I cant even type here.

I hanged up.. I cannot take anymore insult..

I would request all my blogger friends to link to this post and spread the word and hope no one ever buys a whirlpool product.

Whirlpool sucks. and it sucks big time. Their after sales customer support is a joke and the guys employed by them especially this Mr Manoj Pawar of whirlpool thinks he is some kind of a underworld mafia or something..

I am also owner of Whirlpool 340 lt fridge. The fridge worked fine for 2 years and then the PCB developed some fault and fridge used to auto-shutoff intemintently. Since then the PCB was replaced twice (for a payment of course). I went for Whirlpool as it is a respected name abroad but the quality sucks big time.

My previous Voltas (310 lt, non frost-free) worked flawless for 8 years. My in-laws have a Godrej fridge that has been working for 25+ years. I think Godrej fridges are good.

Wow that was a good experience i think you spend more in making calls than the fridge .................first of all take some of your college gang and pay some "respect" to the shop from where you bought the fridge

My personal advice why dont you import a good quality fridge from outside India
they are just flawless and you know it very well what is the difference in terms of quality and performance

That is not a good idea.

    1. Abroad the voltage and frequency is very precise, e.g., 240V/50Hz and it rarely deviates. In India you know the truth and even stabilizers are not good enough.

    2. There is duties and taxes that are payable. The total valuation works like this:
    1. Base Price = Valuation as per customs or original value whichever is higher
    2. Freight Cost = 4% of base price or actual, whichever is higher
    3. Customs duty = (1+2) * 40% (lower if item is brought on TR)
    4. Octroi = as per rates applicable on (1+2+3)

    3. No local warranty support. Spares may not be available or will have to be imported at high cost

The shop where I got it from havent got anything to do with this issue... its between me and whirlpool now as they did what they were supposed to do.

Getting a fridge from abroad isint an optioon as it would cost twice as much and as mentioned by just4kix its just too much hassel and is not worth the effort.

I went to the nearest consumer court at Janak puri and met a guy there who advised me to put a complaint up against whirlpool and demand Rs50000 as compensation for troubling me all this while and ask for the interest for 3 months on the money I paid for the fridge.

I will have to go to Sheikh Sarai consumer court for this on Monday... I am hoping this gets sorted out in two dates... I would love to see whirlpool pay up Rs50000 for all this trouble I have gone through.

    @just4kix & @admin

there is a reason why i mentioned to buy fridge(or any other electrical appliance) from outside India and the reason is........
When my father returned from Libya he bought three (main)things
1.) A deep freezer from National
    2.) A Sony Trinitron 21" CRT TV
    3.) An A.C. from National

These were the things he bought back in 1992!! and uptil now they are working flawlessly so now you can imagine that paying the taxes and all that is worth the performance and reliability there is no need of service.

Take for eg: A.C. the AC's which are coming to India whether they are of Voltas, Videocon, LG, Samsung whatever the manufacturer is they cant run without a stabilizer and they cant even run on a 5KVA generator and the AC we bought from there it works normally without even a stabilizer!!(on direct line with poor voltage i.e. not 220v) and runs normally on a 5KVA generator and there is no effect on the generator as well(due to load) same condition applies to the fridge/deep freezer.............hope now you understand and now i think it is worth the effort!

Yes you are right about 1992 and the reason being these items you have listed used to be very costly in India and no good brands were available so it was a good idea to import when you are moving back to India as that way you dont pay any customs duty either.

Things have changed since the 90's and there are a lot of good brands available in India and the price is comparable to international prices so it doesnt make much sense to import anymore.

You are right about the quality as we in India dont have very strict laws for quality of a product but then you win some you loose some...

We have got an old Voltas fridge at home and it is still working find withint any repairs for more then 20 years now...

I too subscribe to the same theory but not in this case. It is alright for small items such as a laptop, DVD player, a music system, AV Receiver or even speakers. Heavy items such as TV, Washing Machines, Driers, Dish Washers, etc. are not worth the effort and hassles.

The summons have been served to Whirlpool and after that Two guys came from Whirlpool yesterday with a cheque of the full amount and a verbal appology for all the hassel they have given me I refused to take the cheque and didint let them take the fridge away.
I have demanded a compensation of Rs50000 and the interest on the orignal cost of the fridge + legal fees and all other costs involved along with a written appology from whirlpool.

I recieved a call from the same **** faced guy whose name is Manoj Pawar who had a different tone earlier and was behaving as if he is the god almighty... was asking me to forgive him over the phone and he goes sir kyon meri naukri per laat maar rahe ho.

    I am already loving this

No one turned up from Whirlpool India's side on the first date.. The next date is in September and the Judge has assured me that he will pass a verdict on the next date regardless of what whirlpool comes up with on the next date... The Judge was very unhappy with the fact that whirlpool didint bother to send anyone to face the charges.

Goes well for me I will be happy to get Rs50000 compensation on top of the price I paid for the fridge... even better if they refuse to pay up as then I will have some masala to go onto some news channels and also damadge their reputation which is just an illusion and this should make them loose a bit of market share hopefully especially in these tough times when sales are dropping day by day.

Whirlpool is an American company just in case you didin know... Americans actually like to treat us Indians like trash I guess... why such indifference? why is a customer's complaint treated any differently in USA as compared to India?

I am not a very big fan of Americans especially after they attacked Iraq for no reason what so ever and more so after this whirlpool adventure.

Down with Whirlpool. I hope this company goes out of business in India.

i don't believe this, you actually went to consumer court !!!
I have felt so many times to go to the court where I are cheated but never think to actually go for the hassles of the legal procedure

Parminder tell me how easy was it for you to go to the court?
was it like just filling up the form and you have applied or like you have to heir a lawyer to do all the paper wprk

i am really interested to go to court next time when i get cheated. If it is easy.

Going to consumer court no hassel atall just find a nearest one and they will charge you Rs100 and you dont need a lawyer either.
Consumer courts are very very harsh on sellers who cheat consumers and are known to sort matters out in no more then two dates or three at the most.

If you are taken for a ride by a seller I would highly recomend that you go to a consumer court and fight for your rights.

Just be as descriptive in your complaint as you can be. The two courts I have been to had very good staff and were very helpfull.

The Rs100 is to be deposited as postal orders which I think goes towards summoning and stuff.. not too sure.

That might be because your stuff must be made in Brazil... now they have started manufacturing here... actually buying from other manufacturers and putting their own brand name on it..

I too had bought a whirpool fridge and had problems within a week. It took a few dozen phone calls before they picked up the fridge for repairs. And finally they replaced the fridge with a new one.

By contrast the previous 20+ years godrej fridge was working fine without any problems...

My dad used to say that stuff which are sold at the special sales eg new year etc tend to have poor quality stock coz of the discount etc.. maybe its true as well..

And whenever possible he tries to avoid american co's as well as chinese products and prefer UK/European make ones...

Today Whirlpool delivered a cheque for Rs28750 which includes the price I paid for the fridge and Rs7000 compensation ordered by the consumer court.
The fridge is gone and Ive got the cheque Happy days... although 7k isint a great amount but imagine if every consumer stopped taking for granted companies like whirlpool would learn a lesson which they wont forget ever and start treating Indian consumer with some respect.

So another fridge in a day or two

They called me on my alternative number and i just provided them hint of consumer court and got the all mis billed amount waived within 48 hours.

I am glad that Whirlpool "came around" albiet by stick method.

I too have a Whirlpool fridge. But I am going for Godrej or Voltas next time.

Just thought I would update this thread

I bought a Samsung 345 litres fridge and its been working perfectly find ever since... is 5 star rated and has separate temperature controls for freezer compartment and the fridge.

I am not claming that samsung is the best or better then the rest or anything like that but its a thousand times better then Whirlpool.

Ever since this episode happened I must have prevented more then 20 people from buying different whirlpool products Every little helps as they say..
