Some one from tried to hack into my id from Delhi last night at 22:01 from this ip address : 117.197.19.107

I dont understand what some one would gain by logging into my id? delete content? I get a back up every 12 hours.. not just this site all my websites are backed up every 12 hours and I keep copies for 15 day and they are kept off site.

So whats the point?

Hacker's intention is not just limited in creating direct damage to our assets, instead they may try to collect personal information like email id that might be used for next level of attack (Phishing Attack is one such). Once they are succeeded, they propogate this information to their own hacking community. To be a member in such community is not at all easy, one needs to gain credits or impress them or badly need a reference.

The hack attempt wasent a very clever one.. some one just tried a script I guess and tried to login using hundreds of possible passwords into my id and the good thing is that after 5 unsuccesful attempts vb locks the id for 15 mins so it would litrally take the hacker about a thousands of years if he wants to go that route

Yes, this is indeed a great way to protect the passwords in this forum. This way the hackers like above will not be able to suceed at all.
