What's the crime rate in Bombay? I'm visiting the city in 2 weeks, and I want to know what to expect

Its called Mumbai now and crims is not something you should be worried about when visiting Mumbai as its no different as compared to any other city in India.

A huge majority of crime victims are known to the criminals so tourists are not a target in general terms.

I checked your profile and it says Verizon as your isp ... Assuming that you are not a native of India I would say stick to the tourist areas and you are in for a very good time here in India

We have a lot of members here who are from Mumbai so I am sure you will get some first hand inputs from them aswell

I think we are actually very rude to Oigen as this is India BB and he has got every right to ask his question.

But you cannot go by the crime rate. As Admin said, you need to avoid high crime areas.

Well he wasent really making fun... this is what people think of India all over the world... Land of snake charmers and hungry people begging for food and a few more thing... the only good thing about India people know is the Taj mahal..

India has been one of the poorest nations for too long now.. Although thing have changed a lot here in India now but it was soo fast a change that the world is still cathing up with the news.

In 25-50 years may be this poverty will make way for a new developed nation.. and thats if we canmaintian this growth levels through out.

I wont really blame people for misjudging India... Do you have to research about USA or UK or Canada? or Australia? You just get to know that those are rich nations... do you not?

Well India is no doubt a poor country and a very very unplanned one.. But we are moving towards the right direction.

The only problem in India is education... if this right to education bill is passed it will change th face of our nation for ever.
Education will make future voters more capable of making the right decisions and know about what economics is about and why are some people rich and some poor and some in the middle trying hard to get to the next ladder.

EDUCATION is the key to all the riches we have been deprived of all these years.

and before they comment on public platform, its still ok to talk in family...
