Default Driving Tip

Hi guys one thing always bother me while driving, may be it sounds silly.

If you are driving on gear 3rd and you think the speed is enough to put it on the top gear (5th gear), is it feasible?? I mean will it put any bad effect on the engine. Please advice.

More tips are welcome!!

There is nothing wrong if you put the car from 3rd to 5th gear provided that your car is running at the expected minimum speed for the 5th gear. I do that quite often.

You can also do the reverse (5th to 3rd) but make sure that car is not running at a speed that is higher than the recommended speed for the lower gear.

Thats what i was thinking off, sometimes you have to apply hard brakes and there is a frequent drop in the speed thus forcing you to shift from 5th to 3rd then why can't it be vise versa.

Thanks, More tips are welcome

Its absolutely fine... as it is we all down shift from 4 or 5 to 2nd... so why not the other way around too... the gears only depend on the speed of the car.

Excuseme!! what are you saying people are you driving a car or something else

If your car is running fine on 3rd gear then leave it as it is otherwise icrease the speed of the car then shift to 5th gear, it is not advisable to do that but otherwise it is your car do whatever you want it depends on individual riding habits

Well, it was assumed that car is running at enough speed to switch gears.

Otherwise we know what happens - knocking in case shift to higher gear and car engine is not at recommended rpm. In the reverse case (higher to lower gear shift), engine's rpm will increase to dangerous levels.

ya you can do that but this hits your engine if the car is not running on correct speed for the gear... even i shift gears in my motorcycle from 4th to 2nd sometimes but not very frequently... i do only if it is really required... otherwise its better to shift gears in proper patten only... like 1>>2>>3>>4>>5

in my case i dont have 5th gear in electra only 4 gears for me

and admin where is my bike

You can do this safely so long as the RPM's are not to high or to low. I do it all the time and I have never had any problems from it. Just be careful with the RPM's.

I dont see any reason why you cant do shifting form 3 to 5th or 5th to 3rd

Just make sure that when you come down from 5th to 3rd your speed is in the range of 3rd other wise the gear will be stress and gear automatically decrease the speed of the car kind of braking but here the break is the gear which is not good.
