Thumbs down I was offline yesterday

OK, Folks. Yesterday was probably the first day since I joined the forum that I did not login to the forum at all. Naturally I missed some fun. But I am still surprised to see myself on 3rd postion in the stats list.

As you know yesterday was 9/11 and I decided to pay some respects to the martyrs by having a 'pen down' or 'keyboard off'. How is that for a token?

Just kidding guys. 9/11 victims do need to be paid homage but I cannot afford to do it without sacrificing a leave. So my car decided that it was time something should be done. So while driving to office yesterday morning, my clutch cable pin snapped. Consequently I had to tow the car to the nearest Hyundai workshop and get emergency repairs done.

The supervisor told me that my car clutch was too tight and plates had worn off. He said I could stay at the workshop till the work was done or return later in the evening. Now the hassle of going back home (office was more or less ruled out) - a good 25 km away and returning back in the Pune traffic and not to mention the cost of rickshaw (with half return charges because the workshop is outside Pune city limits) was too daunting.

Consequently I spent a wonderful 8 hours or so at the Hyundai workshop, admiring the facilities, drinking tea from a machine, watching TataSky on the TV, etc., etc. My home BSNL connection is still down and in any case when I returned home at 8:15, I had to rush thru the 'aarti' of Ganeshji and then a family dinner at Pune Youth Club Gymkhana.

Oh, to the people who are intersted in minute details, it cost me Rs. 5827.69 for the repairs:

    a) Clutch cable assembly, and clutch plates+others: Rs. 2580.89
    b) Oil seal + Oil: Rs. 366.07
    c) Labour + Wheel Alignment: Rs. 990/-
    d) VAT @ 12.5% on parts (Rs. 2946.96): Rs. 368.37
    e) Service Tax @ 12.36% on Labour: Rs. 122.36
    f) Towing charges: Rs. 1400/-
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

How many kilometres have you done on this car? clutch plates are not that easy to wear out.. unless you are a heavy user of clutch like I am I have a habit of hitting the clutch even before I hit the breaks which people say is not the right thing to do... well old habits dont die that easy...

Towing charges Rs1400 ? I have never even paid for towing... I would call someone up to get his car to tow me if I even get stuck in a situation like this... even in UK and once in States.

Rs1400 is a hell lot of money just to tow from a to b The garage guy should have done that for free just coz you were going to get the repairs done from him.

I had no option but to pay towing charges. They were excessive, I realized but what could be done. This is where India sucks big time - no professionalism and people out to screw you more when you are screwed. Garage guys said that towing is third party agency. Downside - that Hyundai workshop will never get my business again.

Regarding clutch plates: car had done only 20K+ kms. But everyday commute is very bad and chaos has occured on the roads because all are being repaired for CYG event in October. Big traffic snarls. On Wed, I left office at 5:50 pm and reached home at 7 pm (18 km commute). My colleage left at 6:10 and reached home at 9:15 pm while driving only 9 km. So clutch plates do get lot of abuse.

admin here in delhi crane charges are rs 200 only but in pune transport and everything is much expensive then delhi.. When i was in pune i really paid rs 200, 250 for 10 kms to 15 kms only.. in pune autowala charges about 7 rupees per km and when they go any where out side city they charge 50% extra means if total bill on meter is 100 then you need to pay 150 rupees
