    Default Attention Torrent users...

    Kudos!!!

Being the part of file sharing

Think u are really satisfied with that
Along with the advantages of the same there are some problems associated as many of u may be aware of...yes i mean the virus threats from the shared files..if the original or seed computer is infected its highly likely that ur system will be troubled as soon as u get the file through torrent,,

Dont worry ..the best remedy is near u..that go for linux free softwares like ubuntu ..and download as u wish keeping ur system healthy...

U can get a virus from any source, not only bittorrent, if u act dumb.
i hate software piracy and have never downloaded any software off p2p (the main sources of viruses as they are executables). There are so many open source softwares available which do the job quite well. For others just shell out the money if u want to use it.

And what do u mean by "download as u wish without keeping ur system healthy..." ??!

Dear Naz ...you can avoid viruses by downloading only from certain sites which allow user comments on the torrent file

This will also ensure that you do not download dummy files ....You will be fore warned about the status of the torrent file by previous downloaders

And yes Ubuntu will display all the virus files even if they are hidden .... In Linux a seperate process(sometimes a virus) is not allowed as much freedom as in XP without user's permission ...hence any virus will be bottled up and will not effect Linux O.S

Ya of course in Linux there is no concept of viruses..because these viruses are executables and in linux everything is stored in the form of files and no executables, thus preventing the attacks of viruses....

But i had one doubt...How to know whether the torrent being downloaded or already downloaded has a virus or not in Windows environment????

@Eddy Actually i don't drink.... i was high on weed.

Sry for sounding rude Nashiz but what happened was that i just blew up thinking that u think that all use bittorrent for software (partly because i dint understand what u were saying ). The files that have viruses are the many pirated copies of software that are available on public trackers. Tho there has been a report of a .asf music file downloading a virus after it is played but mainly the culprits are exe.

It's true. I've seen *extra* files, when my friend sends me files from his XP.

However I'd like add a point here. Linux too can be affected with viruses/trojans, but very less likely to be affected than XP. And it can be avoided in Linux by keeping the distribution upto-date.

Finally I'm happy to see some Linux users here sharing their experiences.

    - Pothi.

    BTW: I use Ubuntu 8.10.
