hathway on my pc is working fine...
i just got a laptop and tried to connect my laptop to the internet thru the hathway cable...but to no avail...its shows limited or no connectivity


after that,i configured the lan settings in my laptop by copying the same values as that on my pc

I copied the physical address,IP address,sub mask,default gateway,DHCP server values to my laptop


here are the values
Physical address:00-1F-D0-82-B0-31
IP:115.96.235.206
Sub mask:255.255.192.0
Default gateway:115.96.192.1
DHCP Server:202.88.130.40

the LAN was connected...but when i started the browser...it couldn't connect to the internet

i even typed 192.168.100.1 in my address browser...the router page opened


what do i need to do ????
is there anything that i've missed ??
guys,pls pls help me......my final yr project is stuck bcoz of this !

Just reset all the values in the browser and LAN to default and try once again.
Because that is what the Hathway person asked me to do when I got my new connection and it worked for me.(Note down your present settings just in case)

If it's the laptop you're trying to configure, then make sure you are configuring it on the Ethernet Card and not any wireless NIC on the laptop.

Also your IP address information looks ok to me except it doesnt have the DNS settings. Try these for DNS and it should work.
DNS 1: 202.88.149.25
DNS 2: 202.88.149.6
DNS 3: 208.67.222.222

The first two are Hathway DNS servers and the third is an OpenDNS

my bad...i forgot to type the DNS setings in my above post
i entered the settings in the laptop but to no avail !


i also reset all the values in my laptop...but to no avail !

and here's the thing that surprised me the most.....i went to a frnd who has MTNL TRIBAND....tried to connect thru the cross cable and it worked !
i just had to reset the lan settings to automatic !

came home...tried the same thing again with hathway...but to no avail !

i just dont get it......what else could've i missed....

and suggestions ??

Do tell me the status of the lights on your Scientific Atlanta modem

Also paste me these results from the command prompt:

Any of the above solutions will not work b'coz Hathway is binding your MAC. Until you call them on 67134640(Mumbai) to release the MAC binding you won't be able to access internet. Every time you change a syatem you have to call them & ask them to release MAC binding.

The mac binding happens with the MAC address of the cable modem. As such the issue should not arise as long as you are connecting through the cable modem.

Its right if you change your system it wont work you will have to call hathway CC and they will reset the settings then only it will work on other system.

I too had the Scientific Atlanta Cable modem and i used to call CC to get it working on my laptop it was just hell, then i shifted to bsnl.

well,this problem doesn't have a solution

i called up the hathway technical guys... and they told me every time i change my machine(pc to laptop or vice versa) i'll have to release the MAC binding

the worst part is that only the technical guys of hathway can do it !
so in other words...i'll have to call those guys and follow their instructions each and every time i change my machine !

thats a real pain....
the only way to deal with this problem is to get a router which enables sharing...like a wifi router.

currently,i'm working on the best possible option for me...

use soft "smac"
as hathway bindings are for 2 days
ie
once u connect either thru pc or laptop
mac add of one which is connected is binded for 2 days (48hrs)

by using smac tool u can change mac of ur pc or laptop
no need to call cc
eg :

if ur connected on pc wanna switch to laptop
use smac in laptop to change its mac to pc's mac
by this u can access both.
