    Exclamation Disappointing speed cheating

I am a long time hathway user and i just took a look what my actual net speed was.I have 256kbps net.But when i tested at midnight and even early mornings the speed was just not exceeding about 140 kbps. Now i was disappointed eeply and angry too.Can anyone tell me a reliable source to check my internet speed and bandwith that it really is 256kbps.

Once my speed is shown 160kbps and again at another source 60kbps.Pls give me a reliable online speed check meter.I will be posting again about this what i have got my real speed and i intend to do.

I used Hathway few months back and i was not satisfied with the speed then changed to sify which is quite costly. Another problem i faced with Hathway is that torrents don't work in this.Direct downloadings works perfectly but not torrents.I don't why. When i asked them they didn't know much about it .Since u are using Hathway can u tell me whether are u able to download from torrent sites.
It seems they have a plan which is 512 Blast quarterly (1650 - 3 months - 4GB)with 11pm-9am unlimited.Any idea about this?Is so please tell me.

    Default Speed check

You have not specified how did u check the speed.A reliable way is to go on Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. Mumbai and under the broadband tab select check triband speed, than select line speed 256kbps(1MB) file.Anyway according to Hathway engineer u should get anything between 100 to 200kbps as basically all pcs are connected in parallel via splitter ,one food given to many people the less people in the party the more food available to eat i.e.less the people using net higher the speed so u get low speeds at night.Suggestion go for MTNL TriBand as I did,2 MBps(2048KBps) speed at the rate of 256KBps

I found it very useful most of the links. They give a better comparison rates.

When Hathway provides a connection, they claim to be providing you a "dedicated line" which is not shared with anyone else, so your speed should not be affected by other users. Therefore they cannot use this as an excuse. Ask them about this.

Regarding difficulty in downloading torrent files, it could also be something to do with some port settings on your router. You may need to make certain port settings in your router software in order to be able to link up with P2P networks properly. Read up more information on this, and especially about NAT (Network Address Translation). There is usually quite a bit given in the FAQ section in the client software that you use for your torrents.

both hwathway and sify blocked torrent ports...so due to that upload speed is capped...now in torrents if your uplaod speed is capped then for sure the download speed will suffer for sure....
