Thumbs up Which Wi-fi router will suit a Hathway broadband connection

    Hello frns
I have got a new Hathway connection and is looking for a suitable wi-fi router for the same. Before spending money, I thought it will be better to get the wise advice of experts here. Some details :

~Modem which Hathway installed at my home - Scientific Atlanta. A LAN cable comes out of it to my laptop.

~My requirement - Convert this connection to wireless one so that multiple laptop at my home could be connected.

~ I have gone through related threads on the site before posting and got to know these things :
    -- I need a wi-fi router, not adsl modem
-- With user-name/password authentication in hathway, router could be an issue.
-- Some of the options are - Belkin 802.11g and Linksys WRT54G

But since these threads are relatively old, I was looking for some new info.
Please help me with the names of suitable routers and also, will user-name/password will be an issue with it. BTW, I am eyeing Belkin N150, as it is relatively cheaper and seems to be fitting my requirement. Please let me know if am wrong. Thanks.

Belkin model number for Belkins N150 F.........
Netgearwgr614V9 easy to configure. Also dlink models.

Main thing RJ45 from computer goes to WLAN/Internet Port of WIFI router.
    Another RJ45 from LAN1 to computer. ( test )
    Remove cable.
Test in wifi mode SSID as entered in wifi router appears in your laptop ??

Mention OS used. if windows 7 try application "Connectify"
    No need for wifi router.
( borrow a wifi router for trial. !!!!. Not sure Hathway has locked your system MAC address )
    Feeedback.

    Thanks!, that was really fast.

~I can use their service on different laptops by plugging LAN wires into them, so MAC address locking maynot be there.
~ How can I borrow ? Do you know some place in Bangalore where routers are available for borrowing. I hv no clue regarding it.

    Thanks..

The question is whether you can use a laptop in WIFI mode. with
Hatway cable broadband. If they have given you a cable modem, which you can access then it may be possible.

Mention your OS: windows 7 Vista xp sp3 etc .

You can borrow from your friend/s having a Broadband connection.
    for testing.
The cost of a wifi router starts around Rs 1500/= No shop gives it on rent .

Oh yes, friends are always an option.

~Yes, it's a cable modem of Scentific Atlanta. LAN wire from it connects to my laptop.
    ~I intend to use 3 different laptops...2 xp and 1 Windows 7.

    Many Thanks!
