Default Hathway is only for Cable Customers ??

I stay in Mumbai and have been a Hathway Subscriber since 2004. Using Internet via a Cable Modem manufactured by Askey. All has been well so far. Hathway has been good enough for me. Only thing is when the cablewalla's electricity goes off, my internet also goes *poof*.

However, not being happy with Cable TV (and I dont have a Hathway STB yet).. I plan to say bye bye to Cable and go for Dish TV. I did a lot of research and comparisons between Tata Sky, Dish TV and Hathway and finally zeroed in on Dish TV. Now I hear that if I say bye bye to my cablewalla, my Hathway Internet will also be disconnected. As ridiculous as it may sound, I called up the Hathway Call Center to confirm this. The friendly fella at the other end wasnt sure and asked his senior but finally concluded saying Yes. If I disconnect CableTV, my Hathway Internet will also go. As a matter of fact, I did notice that the Cable Internet wire is a different coaxial cable than the Cable TV one.. but controls are from Cablewalla's office . So he is the boss.

Finally, I have made a choice. If I have to close Hathway Internet because I am changing to Dish TV, I will. Now I have a choice for Internet.

1) MTNL Triband (I have a landline right upto my desk, NO wiring needed)
2) Reliance Broadband (No idea how service is, wiring work needed)
3) Airtel Broadband (Same as above, wiring work needed)
4) Tata Indicom (I have a Tata Indicom landline but its no use since they have a Cable like wire, hence wiring work needed)

My need is speed. I need to do huge downloads. I also heard that Dish TV is entering the ISP Space but I have no idea when and I cant wait that long.

Would like to hear suggestions especially from Mumbai since thats where I need to get this connection.

Thanks in Advance Folks.

MTNL plans are not very customer friendly and CS is poor. Reliance has received a lot of complaints also. Ditto Tata-Indicom. I suggest that you go with Airtel.

If you are looking for good speed, i would suggest you to go for either airtel or mtnl, both offer relatively good speed and good plans to choose from but if you download a lot, you should choose only their unlimited plans!
