Hello all mates here.
I have a hathway internet connection. recently i learned that every modem and router has some mac or ip address. i want to know what way i can access my scientific atlanta modem. it is black colour modem and i want to to know how to access it and what is its mac or ip number?

IP address is assigned by the isp and if you go to this site : What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more you will see your ip address , thats the easiest way.

Log into your modem to find out the mac address..


I am not sure what you are trying to do with this info but if you want to clone your mac address then you can use this utility here : Macshift: Change your MAC address: The definitive free command-line MAC changing utility for Windows XP
I hope you are not trying to do anything fishy because it gets caught sooner then you might think.

thanx a lot admin. but what u told was like a bouncer to me. well, i was looking for some kinda address like bsnl routers/modems have like 192.168.1.1 types. have learned that u log in to ur modem or router (donno d real diff between then, hope to learn it here) and u can make it more secure by changing pwd and oder security options there. the same type address (i donno its mac or ip), i need for mah scintific atlanta modem. hope i am lod and clear for my query

Does this cable modem of yours have wifi ? if it doesnt then you dont need to do anything really.

If it does have wifi and you dont use it all you need to do is disable wifi and you are secure No one will be able to use your connection wirelessly that way.

If you have wifi on this modem and you also use it then you would need to password protect your network and I havent got a clue about cable modems I would wait for other members here to help you out on this

PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE TAKEN HATHWAY CONNECTION IN MUMBAI AND SOON I HAVE NOT USED IT FOR 2-4 DAY BUT THEY SHOWS ME THAT YOU HAVE USED 2gB IN THESE DAY I HAVE COMPLAINT TO HATHWAY BUT NO REPLY FRM THEM PLEASE HELP ME

Straight Facts : Clean and Simple:

1. Hathway will never call you once have paid for your connection. NEVER.
You will have to pester them to get meaningful answers.

2. make a note of you installation date+time, your IP (Hathway will give you a static IP for a cable modem), make a note of your NIC's MAC address (ipconfig /all) or
/etc/sysconfig/hwconf if you run Linux.

3. Forget the phone, go to the nearest Hathway office with the details mentioned above. Without losing your cool, show them these details and ask them to prove that the 2 gb of download was indeed yours.
Ask for specific details like what was the time the download took place, what were the sites visited, what was the OS etc.

4. Unless they divulge this info, do not give up and leave the office.

This is the only way, I managed to resolve my issue (similar to yors.)
