Default Should more public places ban smoking?

My aunt died from second hand smoke. She worked years along smokers in her office. Now that smoking is not allowed in most public places, there are still pubs and discos were smoking in still allowed. Do you think these places ahould ban smoking as well?

Whereas passive smoking is also injurious, to cause death would mean that it was prolonged and regular exposure. Where did your aunt work?

As far public smoking ban, the circular in India describes a public place as "any place that has gathering of disparate people who have aggregated for some common purpose". In that sense all restaurants, bars, discos, auditorium galleries, bus stops, railway stations, etc. are considered as a public place. Organizations are barred to have designated smoking places.

What is wrong with you alessadry
where did your aunt work and why you never asked her not to stand or sit with smokes, i am sure there is not even a single office where people smoke on work station.
This is a baseless hit on smokers

I really don't like to entertain such kind of baseless comments on smokers or on anyone :32:

Nothing is wrong for me for sure...as more and more people come to realize of the risks involved with second hand smoking!-see India news link below:
    http://www.antara.co.id/en/arc/2008/...rotect-health/

My cousin worked for a call center, back when smoking in offices was permitted. I was a child back then so I really did not realize of what was happening She really did not realize about the risks back when it was not banned. Two months later another co-worker of hers died as well. They both worked there for 15-20 years.

I now worry for my cousins that frequent pubs every night and come home heavily smelling as tobacco. Myself cannot frequent such places as the smoke is unbearable and my eyes become teary and I lose my voice.

Just checking on what others think about these new legislations popping up..

Well passive smoking can highly affect non smokers, and especially those who are with those people who smoke all the time!

I also heard that passive smoking is sometimes worse than smoking itself!

But smoothvibes, you were upset with alessadry when she said that her aunt died due to passive smoking. Now you are convinced that passive smoking is bad?

Passive smoking cause more harm cuz therez no filter involve in it... A person who smokes a decent cig. always have a filter in between... but a passive smoker doesn't have that luxury...

but I never heard anyone die of passive smoke whatever the condition... thats a bit strange and news to me...

LOL. Any product that contains tobacco is bad. Does this e-cigarette contain tobacco?

There is more. In the passive environment, and especially in closed spaces, the smoke lingers in the air for a lot more time. And then there are multiple smokers adding more and more smoke. Hence you are unknowingly breathing smoke for a prolonged period of time.

Passive smoking is unlikely to cause any harm, say at a railway platform or bus stop, other than the temporary irritation. But closed rooms like restaurants and bars is big no-no. Also a non-no in bus/train coach.

Thats true... but in that case its equally harmful for smokers & non-smokers... Or perhaps more harmful for smokers...

    But digressing a little.

I have been touring abroad since 1991. That was 17 years ago. Even during those times smoking was not permitted in offices. I remember that people had to go out in the cold and freezing temperatures just to get their quota of 'oxygen'. Way back then, even our office in India did not allow smoking at desk.

I know that passive smoking is harmful - especially to people working in restaurants, pubs, etc. English pubs are (were) full of dense smoke. But I have reason to doubt whether passive smoking at other places (other than bars/pubs) have the capability to kill.

ya passive smoking is more injurious than active smoking! i think that each pub or disco's should have a place for smoker only and have no interaction with non-smokers! there are a lot of people having cancer by second hand smoking! there should be more and more law to protect these people and also the smoker should be knowing about that so that they do not smoke in the presence of a non-smoker! they should learn to respect he health of other people!
