One doubt. I have heard too much brushing causes the enamel to *fade* away. Is that true?

Ok another query. I have met some guys/gals who do not use toothpaste while brushing. They just use a plain clean brush. When confronted they were of the opinion, did our great great forefathers use toothpaste or any other stuffs?

    So is that attitude true?

I don't know... But I guess our great-grandfathers were more immune to teeth problems... cuz they never ate chocolates, fast/junk foods, softdrinks etc... atleast they used twigs from some specific trees like neem...

That attitude is comical to say the least. Toothpaste was not invented then. Toothpaste contains the right chemicals in the right proportion that help clean the teeth better, kill bacteria, attack the germs that cause bad breath, etc.

For that matter, our forefathers did not use the brush either. So why use the brush then?

I read in Kamasutra that ancient Indian males & females were cleanest in the world... They were known for their hygiene maintenance!

Yes this is true. My grandmother used to brush her teath for many
many years and finally the enamel and the entire teeth faded
away and she had no teeth at all in the end.

Yes, I read all of KS when I was in bed-rest after a surgery... Its very interesting book... People should read it... Commenting more on that will breach rules of forum... Its not my intention to hijack this good thread!

Olympic swimmers and cyclists do this to squeeze out every
possible performance advantage. They also probably
brush and floss regularly (just to be on topic)

our ancestors used lots of other means to keep their tooth clean which are scientifically proven. brushing with a plain clean brush is not of much use. if they follow our ancestors ask them to use datun/ lal dant manjans(dabur etc)
