all doctors advice at least 3-3.5 litres of water intake daily, particularly in the hot and humid climate of India
depends on the temperature and other factors

a person in AC environment will require much less than normal intake and those roaming under the hot sun will require a lot more than the normal intake.

are you sure it only 1 litre a day.

then you might be visiting KK soon for removal of kidney stones.
yes, it is probably even less. I drink a glass in the morning, during lunch
and after dinner (to take my medications ;-) then maybe a couple of
cokes/sprites and a couple of coffees. and a couple of glasses
    of wine before dinner.

actually I feel bad that is too little. Have to increase my water intake.

You should never drink more water than your body require. Excess of anything is bad.

a little excess of water won't hurt. Only if you drink a couple of
gallons in one shot you might end up with water poisoning.

Taking a litre or two more will not harm but excess reduces minerals

the body is able to absorb all necessary minerals it needs.
only the excess is flushed out.
if you drink more water, the flushing effective, if you drink too little, there is chance that something will remain unflushed or worse the flushing system would get chocked.

lots of carbs is also not good. go easy on the white rice, especially as
    you grow older.
