Things have got a bit serious well in Delhi they have, and many people have stopped going out due to the swine flu?
But how long do you think it will last?
Should we stop going out because of swine flu?

I am currently in US but I was in Pune till last week. Pune, as you all know, was probably maximum affected. All public places such as schools, colleges, malls, multiplexes, religious gatherings, etc. were shut off.
In April, when Mexico City was staggering under swine flu, the entire city was shut off for two weeks. The spread became controlled after that.
It is too speculative to say whether closure can reduce the risk or control the spread but what else can be done. In US, schools opened yesterday after the summer vacation and it is expected that swine flu will re-emerge. Only time will tell.
So to answer your question, the answers to both will be speculative or hypothetical.
a) Swine Flu may last at least 4-5 months more.
b) We need not stop going out but take precaution by avoiding severely crowded places. But that also begs a question - what will people do who use public transport to commute to work?

like bird flu, chicken gunya,....swine flu might also gradually disappear...but you cant stay indoors waiting for it to vanish..gotta protect yourself while going out.
my imagination is running wild.......like in the sci-fi movies may be swine flu will increase at a rapid rate and all the infected person turns in felsh eating zombies:death:
then will you think of going out????:1:
@ boneless - let you imagination run wild!
Although we can not just stay at home all the time during the swine flu, so with these masks do you think they are affective when going into crowed places!
I have not been going out much these days. I try to avoid at maximum. I read in some newspaper that there would be a 2nd wave of Swine flu in the year end i.e. around dec-jan. It seems swine flu would spread more rapidly during the winter season.

Hi guys i am not sure any of you would prefer to be protective like me.
You might say i am thinking in the lines of the hype that is created but I wash my hands regularly and use a mask wherever i am going. But i am really not sure about the surgical masks.
I bought couple of N95 masks a week ago at a local store for Rs.500/- ya mind blowing price. i know.
A friend of mine bought 4 masks from this site: "safetystore.in" for a much lower price
I also ordered 4 pieces yesterday because we are using on a daily basis.
Thought to let you guys know because the discussion is on the flu season.
hope that helps.

Will swine flue repeat on a person ? If comes and cures, will it come again ?
ya original or proper mask or whatever it is which can help better is something like that only. The one that WHO and government is suggesting is exactly N95 8210 Mask. Priced between 400-800 in local stores. I was told in mumbai/pune these masks are sold between 900-1200. i am better off buying online at safetystore.in for Rs 275/piece
Swine Flu virus is a variant of the standard flu virus.
There is no immunity against it. But that does not mean it is incurable. Even normal flu can kill. When the virus reaches deep inside the lungs, it becomes a dangerous situation.
Just as with any virus, it can mutate. So medicines of today may become ineffective. But by taking precautions and medicines early, things can be brought under control. The media has over hyped the situation. Yes. It does not immediate addressing but there is no need to panic.
I guess that it would last till all the patented drugs produced by the MNCs gets sold ! Then something else will come up to get attention. Remember AIDS, Birdflu ? Nobody talks about them anymore !
A few die by swine flu and everyone is wearing masks for protection.
Tens of thousands die of AIDS every year, yet people don't wear protection.![]()
The swine flu topic is just pushed up by the media, it's not really dangerous. There are more people dieing of a normal seasonal flu than of swine flu. No media report about that.
About 160 people died in Mexico... ridiculous compared to the number of inhabitants. Also most of the masks they wore where absolutely useless. The father of a friend of mine over there got it and was cured in 2 days in the hospital.
Its a bit different for a country like India where in the metros we have hospitals that are best of the best in the whole world with doctors more skilled and experienced then one can ever imagine and then there is another side... rural areas in some states dont even have access to first aid leave alone getting treated at a hospital. Indian government is yet to order the swine flu vaccine (was in newspaper) and the western countries are buying them for their entire population.
Millions od deaths in India are not even reported and who know what those people dies from as the people I am talking about would have never even seen a doctor in their entire life time.
Then we have apollos and what not where people from all over the world come to get treated. We even get patients from countries like UK, USA and Canada besides other developed countries not just because it is cheaper in India but we do have the best docs here and th hospitals.

Preeti, while it is true that we have excellent hospitals, when it comes to swine flu, none of them treat it.
My mother in law has got swine flu at the moment, and unless you have any underlying health problems, you should be okay.
I think the news has brought about a lot of hysteria and people are in a panic.
In total seven people I know have had it, recovered and are absolutely fine.
but we will be in big trouble if it mutates into a more lethal strain.
News has gone down about swine flu and their are fewer cases, which is good! Haven't really heard anything else about it, any updates from anyone else about the status of swine flu in India?
Influenza is most potent in India during whats commonly called as the "season change" i.e. March and Sept. As the weather settles down for winter, the spread of Influenza also goes down.
Same should be applicable For Influenza H1N1 (swine flu) also.
