Stigmata- its a movie about a gospel from christ- the last and the only gospel by christ himself!there was one such gospel found in some place in africa but vatican doesnt accept it . jesus!!whats the truth??and loved the concept. had never heard of stigmatas before this. all in all its a great watch. m heading for another movie -'Definitely Maybe' now, hope a much lighter movie!!shall write in soon about that too.

its not a horror movie. its about christian faith more importantly the church of rome. It echoes the same religious controversy that Da Vinci Code talks about.though not in a thriller format but a theological cum parapsychological manner.

2)imdb rates it as horror . Synopsis seems to hint the same
3) I am a Christian so i can pretty much make out the story[and theologies within] from the summary and the name of the film [stigmata]

The influence of the MTV generation on cinema has never been more apparent than in Stigmata, a visually stunning, prepostrously plotted thriller that also happens to be vehemently anti-Catholic. MGM will never hear the end of it from the ubiquitous, uncomfortably large Catholic League, and understandably so; unlike some of the films that activist groups have made a fuss about, it's not hard to see where this one may offend. Let the offended ones balk, but this is tremendously enjoyable trash, an audaciously stylized full-length music video that manages to deliver a smart, surprisingly restrained message in a story that doesn't make an iota of sense.

I've seen this movie... The girl was suffering from real horrible things... Its based on true stories... I've seen something on Stigmatas on discovery channel also... don't understand why it happens with some...

the movie is based on the concept of stigmata, where people get a piercing pain on their wrists and feet and then the bleeding starts, without any medical explanation. christian experts say its similar to the suffering jesus suffered on the cross (he was crucified, with nails punched into his feet and wrists)..
Such incidents are noticed in the past, and many see it as a blessing and gift from god.
but the confusing part is some get these wounds on the arm and some on the wrist. a french priest Padre Pio was famous for gettin the stigmata and used to always were gloves.
the movie is kinda creepy though cause the female in it is almost an unbeliever and stigmata is known to happen to the very pious.
@ alexina - she suffers because of the stolen rosary presented to her . the dead priests karmas and consequences all are transferred to her and if you see the end the priest is there in her body in the fire sequence.
oh yes now i remember, saw the movie wen i was real young and dint know the stigmata concept at that time. i thought it was cool and fancied it happenin to me, but no not anymore, its really painful business!

Apart from that info ...... There is also the fact that Stigmata is nt supposed to be violent ....They first go into a trance like state , and then start spontaneously bleeding[Atleast thats what the sufferer says] . Not violently getting lashed/cut etc by an invisible force like the Heroin in that movie .
The movie was not well researched ....
