I do enjoy modern authors as well - Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsythe, Irving Wallace, Jeffrey Archer (a particular favourite), Tom Clancy, Leon Uris, Dan Brown, etc.

I have a lot of bestsellers in my home library (DVDs are not all I have ).

I will not discount JKR's ability to invent such a make-believe world .... But u must agree that JRR Tolkien steals the thunder in that category ... He had to think up Uruk-Hai , Hobbits ,Oliphaunts etc ... when there was no tv . computer etc to fire away your imagination .... I truly think he was a genius

When i first read LOTR

i was thinking

wtf , this guy[JRRT] has packed one semester's worth of Poetry , Literature , Geography , History , Fantasy , Languages , Zoology etc etc in one book !

And he made it up all by himself ! !

I do not think jkr can be accused of Plagarism .... its taking intellectual property right issue a little too far

i was introduced to both LOTR and Erich Von Daniken when i was in 7th grade, my father brought two books (LOTR and Gods Were Astronauts) for me from his office library. I was immediately mesmerized by it. Between 7th and 10th grade I bought and read all the books by Tolkien I could lay my hands on. You cant imagine how many hours I spent at college street second hand books market to buy books with my pocket money. And I actually found "The book of lost Tales" from that place.

PS: Did I mention that I started liking dictionaries right when I startrd LOTR.

yeah me too ..... Spent so many hours in British Council Library's couch

I spent so much time reading during my school/college days that i am one of the few people (vip ) to be let into the American Consulate [Their library is present within] without frisking/checking (because i know every single of their staff there]

yeah, i remember when I was a member of BCL and American Centre here in kolkata. those were great days. Actually my BCL days inspired me to start a movie collection, the kolkata centre has a tremendous Movies Archive ranging from old tape disks to dvds. I saw all the Cary Grant, Rock Hudson's movies when I was a member of British Council Library.
But American Centre here in kolkata has very tight security (because of the attempted bombing several years back) and its library is not that good either. They used to show 1 or 2 good movies every month though , I went whenever I could.

all the 5 movies are guud but the 1st 2 movies are the best coz they are directed by Chris Columbus who was also the writer of young sherlock homes any of the movie series can be guuud if it was directed by the same director......

I tried watching the first one some time back...& honestly I got lost with the story after half an hour.
Anyone here read the LOTR books...they're quite complicated I heard.
But the movie just rocks...better than Harry Potter in the fantasy genre I think. What say ?
