    Default Review: Love Actually

    Synopsis:
    From imdb.com

Set almost entirely in London, England during five frantic weeks before Christmas follows a web-like pattern of inter-related, loosely related and unrelated stories of a dozen or more various individuals with their love lives, or lack of them. The central character is the new bachelor prime minister David who cannot express his growing feelings for his new personal assistant Natalie. The prime minister's older sister Karen slowly grows aware of her husband Harry's flirtation with an office worker named Mia. Karen's friend Daniel is a recently widowed writer whose 11-year-old son asks for love advice about a girl he has a crush on. Meanwhile, Jamie is another writer who leaves his girlfriend after catching her cheating on him and travels to France to write a novel where he pursues a possible romance with his non-English speaking Portuguese maid Aurelia. Also, Harry's American secretary Sarah questions a romance she pursues with the office hunk Karl, but her personal family problems get in the way. Other secondary characters involve a photographer who pursues his best friend's new wife Juliet; a pair of movie stand-ins, named John and Judy, who grow closer after their simulated love scenes; a libidinous chum who wants to travel to Wisconsin, USA to score with women; and a burned-out former rock star named Billy Mack who is the main connection between all stories involved.

    Critical Appreciation:
Love Actually is one of the best rom-com's I have seen.

Circa 2004. When I saw it the first time (on DVD), I did not find it that appealing. Considering that Richard Curtis gave us Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diaries, I expected more.

Fast foward to 2007. I was on project at EA for a month. I was sitting all alone at my hotel in Redwood City. It is a Saturday morning and I have just finished breakfast. Nothing much forward to look too - friends have gone for a trip to Napa. I decided to take a walk and walked into a Best Buy near the hotel. Having found nothing interesting, I chose to buy the DVD of this movie. And what did I do later - on the whole Sat afternoon and Sunday, I watched the movie 4 times. And I kept watching it every night of the week.

This movie grows on you. Each couple is somehow inter connected and lively. The relationships are beautiful. There is no stretch and the movie is carefully edited.

    Recommendation: Must see. 4/5.

Attached are some snapshots from the movie.

I have heard alot about this movie from my friends, but yet to watch it. I find the British accent so annoying!

I love the British accent. In fact, this is the USP of one of the characters of the movie in the film plot.

Salaame Ishq was based on this movie - that they made a complete mess of things can be story of another movie.

Don't understand why Bollywood makes such a terrible mess of good English flicks.

"A Walk to Remember" is also a nice love story. It was plagarized as some Hindi movie - don't remember the title - an Abhi/Ash starrer - it bombed miserably. Saw it on TV once.
