If you wish to watch some pure unforced comedy, this must be it.

The Gods Must Be Crazy is a movie about a bushman named Xi. The Bushmen live in the South Botswana desert Kalahari. They have everything they need. Their life is contented. They live where no "civilized" men can hope to survive. They have no sense of ownership, they get everything from nature, they don't know jealousy, anger, hate, crime, etc. They have no police. In short they live in perfect harmony with nature.

600 miles down south of the Kalahari is a great city where civilized men live. Unlike the bushmen, who have learnt to adapt to nature, civilized men refused to adapt. Hence they built a lot of gadgets so that "nature could adapt to them". They have automibiles, roads, electricity, telephones, gas, fans and airconditioners and money. But as the civilized men try to make nature adapt to them, they become slaves to the machines they have built so much so that they have to adapt to the atmosphere that they have built.

For instance, when it is Monday 7:30 AM, the man to dis-adapt to the homely nature and learn to adapt to the work-nature. At 8:00 AM, all must sit at their desk or work at their jigs and look busy. At 10:30 AM, people can stop looking busy and have a coffee or a smoke and can look free for 15 minutes. At 10:45, they must look busy again. At 12 PM, they can take an hour off to feed themselves. No wonder, some people go "off the rocker" after some days.

But in the Kalahari, for the bushmen, it is always Tuesday or Thursday or any day for the matter.

But one day the peace of the bushmen is broken when a glass bottle of Coca Cola falls from the sky (unbroken). The bushmen think that this is another gift from the Gods. They had never seen such a wonder. It was hard as rock and it served many purposes. It could be used to create music (by blowing on top), could create creative designs, could be used to cure (flatten and treat) snake skin, could be used as a pestle in a mortar, etc.

But the Gods had been careless. They had sent only one such device. So suddenly, the bushmen started having a feeling of ownership, to possess, not to share, followed by anger, hate, jealousy, etc.

Xi decides that the thing was evil. The Gods were crazy to send the thing to them. The next morning he will walk to the ends of the earth and throw it over the edge of the world.

The Gods Must Be Crazy is humourous look at the civilized life from Xi (and the Bushmen) point of view. If you have not seen this movie, I recommend it highly.
