    Question OnLine Shopping

    Hi,

    People can you pls suggest sites where i can shop online in India. It should be reliable (unlike e-bay) . Preferably just straight buying [no auctions] . There should be 100 % guarentee that the product when ordered should reach me.

    Generally i am looking to buy electronics .

    Also pls mention if they include shipping costs and the modes of payments accepted .

    Thanks in advance

    Not yet ... but because all the sellers are third party its always dangerous to trust them ..Lately there is also news that lots a people are selling fake products in e-bay... I would prefer a guarantee of receiving the product

    Hello all, e-Bay is a very reliable site. I have purchased DVDs and some other things from them. They has a system called PaisaPay which makes cheating hard. Also seller ratings can guide you. Here is how PaisaPay works:

    - You place an order over eBay merchant
    - The Paisapay collects from you via CC / Paypal /ICICI account
    - System instructs seller to confirm that payment has been collected and shipping can happen
    - Seller ships item
    - Item is received by purchaser
    - Purchaser has 10 days to report that order was not received or goods were faulty. Faulty goods must be returned at purchaser's shipping cost (I think).
    - If purchaser confirms receipt of goods or more than 10 days are past, seller is paid by PaisaPay
    - In case of disputes, Paisapay usually returns the money in favour of the party that wins the dispute. PaisaPay system is the sole arbitrator.

    Cognizant Technlogy Solutions handles eBay account and I should know.

    When it comes to online shopping, I only know of ebay. That's because I'm not into online shopping. I don't like it since it has issues with credit cards.

    I don't like to have problems with my credit cards.

    My opinion is that you should not buy anything online here in India as unless its not available in shops around you.. Its always better to have a look at the stuff you are buying.

    Indian consumer laws have not evolved enough for us to be trusting and risking our hard earned money.

    I have read some very bad stories here : Consumer complaints

    If you are ordering from abroad make it a point not to use regular post as we still have babu log working in postal departments who wouldnt let an opportunity to steal go by.

    I have never had this stealing trouble in UK its just our great country where our countrymen take pride in stealing other people's stuff.

    I always prefer shopping at the stores, because in that way, I can personally check the item I am about to buy.

    And I am comfortable when I can see and touch, and if possible, if it applies, wear the item that I like buying.

    Exactly the reason i avoid shopping online in India .....I thought maybe there was something reasonable ....
    I get a lot of stuff bought and sent from abroad thru my visiting friends .... Never trust our Babu lohg to pass a chance to free load .....

    @j4k
    My friend bought a TV on e-bay ... After a few months it gave some problems ...after having it checked he was told that one of the components inside had come lose .... Maybe due to a fall or a bump [during shipping]..And also in e-bay they quote outrageous prices for some items ....

    @Jhellie_Baby
    I am not so sensual ,but yeah i like to visually make sure that the product i am buying is in one piece ....

    @ShAdOwCoN, Stuff like TV, high cost gadgets, etc. should never be purchased from eBay. Restrict eBay for small items, VCD/DVD, etc. And yes. Shipping costs are outrageous on eBay.

    @jhellie_baby, In India many shops do not allow try (fitting) and then buy. In case of apparel, items like salwar-kameez come in three/four different fittings and hence you are asked to take a judgement call before buying. Many shops do not allow exchange also. Things are changing but that may take time. Are things different in your country? I have never been where you appear to be from.
