    Default iTunes Liabrary Problem

Ive currently go a problem with my iTunes software and when trying to add new songs to my iPod.

Ive got songs on my iPod and when i want to add new songs and i connect my iPod a message appeared that all songs will be erased from library to add new ones. I clicked on cancel but i cant then add new songs.

I connected my iPod again and i thought i would restore it and then add the songs, but when i connect the iPod and try to click on restore in iTunes, the iPod gets disconnected from iTunes and the message on the iPod comes up as disconnecting and it isnt then connected to the comp or iTunes.

Why am i not able to connect and restore my iPod or even add new songs to my iPod without having to erase the ones on my iPod, it doesn't matter if their not ion the liabray or not! Or do they have to be in the liabrary when i add new songs too?

Im confused someone help me solve this problem!

If you connect an iPOD to a new computer, the library goes out of sync. Did this happen to you?

If not, you could do the following (only if you have all the songs on iPOD on disk as well):

    a) Start iTunes
    b) Delete the existing library
    c) Build a new library
    d) Connect the iPOD
    e) When it gives a warning about current songs being lost, click OK.
    f) New library will be loaded to iPOD and all songs will be restored.

no im using the same comp, ok will try this!

it doesn't work, i deleted all the songs form the library, then added all the songs to the library, i then connected my ipod>

Synchronizing then came up on my ipod, then came up ok to eject! And my new songs were not still there!

You can try reseting the iPOD. Sometimes that may work.

When syncing i-pod and i-tunes the songs that are not in your i tunes but are present in your ipods may be erased

ok i tried unsuccessfully to simulate the problem on mine ...... But try this

    -->Unplug your Pod

-->Like Jay said uninstall and reinstall itunes

Carefully follow the next 2 steps

-->Plug your pod now . It ll ask u whether u want to erase and sync ... click Erase and Sync

--> As it is erasing and syncing, immediately go to the Music tab of the iPod and uncheck Sync Music. Then go to the Summary tab and check Enable disk use. Click Apply. What this will do is keep your iPod connected to the PC to use as disk storage. You must use the Safely Remove Hardware utility found on the System Tray to eject your iPod now. Advantage is that you can sync what you want onto the iPod.

Reseting iPOD (to factory settings) will erase everything.

There are softwares available that can transfer songs on iPOD to disk. I am told that there is a freeware program - don't remember the name. Search in Google.

don't know how but somehow i copied songs from my cousin's ipod without any software!
in my computer it appeared like a removable flash drive.just open and copied from it.

but the names were different like XYJ,LJH..........

    i just had itunes.

Yes. It is possible to copy that way because the iPOD also gets attached as a disk drive. But you are not aware of the file names - just some AHX, JYD, BTM, etc. It is a paintful task to open (listen) to each file and rename the file.

But softwares such as CopyPod are able to do the reverse, i.e., copy songs from ipod to disk.

    Thanks Just4kix!

Is it right that I can only use my computer to upload songs to my ipod and if I use someone else it would generally appear with the message saying that if I want to add new songs then current data will be erased!!!

So in other words you can only put songs on to you ipod using the computer you normally use ie your own computer!

That is a sort of content protection system that Apple has built into the system.

It is very frustrating and one of the big iPod turn off's.

    thanks itsmemad!

Ok I don't remember if I mentioned it, but I restored my iPod, and put the songs back on onto the iPod which I had kept in a file on the comp, although the latest ones where not there but majority of them were!

Anyway the new problem is that after I have put the songs onto the iPod, and used it, I connect the iPod again but can not view the songs, why is this?

I want to delete some songs how can I do this?

Another question I have is during the sync session and while the songs were being loaded onto the iPod, I was able to delete some songs from there, and there is an dialogue box which comes up which says deletes song from files too, does this mean the song gets deleted from My Music folder in My Documents?
