Default Alternate power to my home.

    Hi friends
Atlast the wait is over, specially for NP & Logik

This is the project which i told you all about the wind turbine i made to produce the power required to run my PC and now my home also.

    Things used.

    1) 1 KW Wind turbine which i got custom made by one of my friend who is an electronics engineer in bangalore

    2) 25 ft Strong pole to hold the turbine

    3) 2 Full sized tubular batteries, 1 Medium sized sealed batter, 1 small 6 V battery which we use in chargeable lamps

    4) 1 charger to charge the batteries from wind power and 1 charger to charge from normal power if wind turbine fails

    5) APC UPS with some alterations to work with a medium sized battery
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the main wind turbine which i am using now of 1 KW. This produces the 1 KW power in 1 hour if it spins with the speed of 75 rpm

This is the Inverter to which the main power comes from the wind turbine

This is the UPS i use to run my PC, this also is now charging by the same wind turbine

This is the Charger i made with 5 Amps transformer to conver 200V AC to 12 V DC to charge my UPS if wind turbine fails

This is the first wind mill i ever made which has 3 table fan blades (now only 2 are there as i broke out last week due to heavy wind ). These blades are connected to normal cycle dynamo which produces 12 V when it spins at full speed (normally 2 V ill get from 1 dynamo). This is connected to the 6V battery which i use for night lamps in all rooms (4 *3 LED's)

Now anything you want to ask, you can. As i have only done most of the things in this i know in depth.

Please give your views and suggestions

Is there any upper speed limit for the new turbine ? And how will u protect it in case of heavy wind etc ?

This new turbine installed here will withstand the wind speed upto 150 km/hr ie almost 400-500 rpm. If the wind power is more than that, the turbine's wings are controlled electronically which will make the wings parallel to the ground so there will be very less interference with the wind and no damage will be done to the turbine.

Wow do you, mean like the shaft holding the turbine will automatically position itself in right angle to the normal position ?

PS: thanks for the thread. Really nice. But the last one is overkill, just to power 4*3 leds :tt2:

The blades will align itself in such a position where it will get sufficient wind to produce power but will let go the excess wind and that helps a lot and there will be almost no damage to the turbine.

Yea i told na it was my first windmill yo can see it is a fixed windmill means it cant change the direction according to the wind, from this only i started to think about this project so not in the mood to remove it

    yo kiran......u rock
but whts the cost man......if u can through some light on the price of each things that will be great.

one last thing......i guess this setup is useful to run the PC directly? or is it the case that u use this thing to charge ur inverter batteries & use those charged batteries to run pc? sorry for such noob like q? but i am confused lil.

The cost of turbine depends on what technology you want in it.
The one which i have now cost me 14,000 Rs only for turbine.

The recurring expense of battery is the main problem. I think a well maintained battery can run maximum 2 years.

OK here is the total cost

    1) Turbine - 14,000
    2) 2 batteries ~8 thousand
    3) Pole - 4500
    4) UPS and batters for PC - ~3500
    5) Charger ~ 500

    6) Old windmill with 3 fans - 500

These are the prices for the things which i have, this is a heavy production setup. You can have the small one in max 10-15 K for everything

No not really, as just before this setup i had a tubular battery only which gave me good performance till 4 yrs..

Dear every month you save atleast 500 rs so calculate for 2 yrs and the cost of the battery
