PS: don't know anything about photography. Only achievement of mine is developing own pine hole camera(6th stan.) which most student do in 6th standard.

every camera is good...

i think you are a good photographer, thats why you saw that option... but thats a digital form, i think it gives some special colorish shade to the pic, while we are talking about multi color

btw i am glad to have you in this forum. kindly post some of yours too..

generally i take with flash on...i dont know why

maybe because i want to bring some warm tone to the pics...

i dont like hollow colored pics.. some vibrancy is must,, though i know i miss somethings...

also i do practise a lot with shutter speeds..

Flash fill works in many cases to highlight dimly lit or backlit subjects. But the photograph of the Himalayas posted above, it will not make much difference (unless there is a foreground).

In the photograph posted, you can clearly see that there is a lot of haze in the sky and in front of the mountains. The moutains are appearing very blueish. A circular polarizer is the best filter for such a situation. It gets rid of the haze.

You can experiment any way you like. You can and will get interesting results. But on film camera this will turn out to be expensive. That is the only problem.

Thanks for the rep, KK.

Very good. Serene mountains, especially snowcapped, are beautiful to look at.

you can get some interesting effect while taking pictures of people.
but for example for that mountain probably the correct
exposure might be 1/200 @ f16 (+- a couple stops) so if you
have 1/8th it will be really overexposed with or without the flash.

I thought the same. But I was not sure whether he selected 1/8 sec as the shutter speed or reduced the shutter speed by 1/8th.

Great post. I'm very much fascinated by photography as a hobby.

Please suggest any best camera to start with.

I have some models in my mind from Olympus and canon.

Reps added.

Thank you for the appreciation.

It is difficult to suggest a good camera to start with:

a) A D-SLR is very expensive, at least some $800 to begin with
b) A P&S digital camera can be cheap but does not provide advanced features like interchangeable lens, filters, close-up/macro photography, etc.

Please let me know the budget.

Budget is no bar. As I'm new to photography, I want to start learning it as a hobby. When I will feel that I became perfect, I'll go for professional cameras.

Also while experimenting, I usually damage the gadget. So I will prefer cheaper one with maximum features to learn it (Quality can be compromised unto some extent).

Digital cameras are cheaper but the output is not as satisfactory as compared to analog cameras.

Then I suggest that you start with a Point and Shoot (P&S) Digital Camera.

You expressed preference for Olympus or Canon. Both are good - but I am favoured towards Canon. Look for the following features:

a) 6x to 10x Optical zoom; ignore all claims on digital zoom - digital zoom is a useless feature
b) At least 6 MP sensor - nowadays 8 MP is almost a standard
c) Manual controls
d) Preferably powered by 2 AA NiMH batteries (not 4 - some Canon cameras require 4 batteries)

As you said, no need to go overboard with a high cost camera. Stick to the $200 to $300 range.

Thanks, I made up my mind for canon P&S Digital Camera. I'll visit nearby shopping mall for it.

For tips, I'll post you.

^^ i have gone through Canon's quite alot,.. and yes i found them interesting..
My gf is appearing in delhi this mid month, so i hope she brings me a better slr.
she is a a hobbistic too, but maybe she is not into technicalities of cams,
now its recession in Russia, so maybe i get a good cam..

@kixov, smoothovich

apart from filters, i use inbuilt anti-hue, and anti blur settings inside my cam.
but i am not able to get the real thing out of it.
how is that possible if you dont have the filter with you..(considering they can be costly if you are really out of funds, out of station/you forgot to bring filter-splitter)
