    Thumbs down Cheated @ Pai

2 days ago my mother had bought a LG 42" Full HD LCD TV, a Philips DVD player and Philips 5.1 speaker system from Pai on bannerghatta road, bangalore.

I was really busy that day so i could not go and my parents think i m a total idiot, so they did not even ask me.

They got all the above things for Rs 67,000 for our art of living meditation hall.

Now, we were cheated big time.

We were sold the TV a very high price of Rs58,000 , which i saw in the newspaper as Rs49,990. I know its my mum's fault too, but then y should they take advantage of her like that.

They sold her the DVD player for about Rs5,000. They told her that it has an Ipod dock with it and you can used the HDMI in the dvd player to connect your ipod.

Turns out that the dvd player does not come with the dock (there no attachment even available for that player) and has only 1 HDMI out from the dvd player. So, they gave her incorrect info.

    Now, worst thing. The speakers.
I really did not understand the product.
The box said 3000W.Lets assume that the rating is in PMPO. That means its 3000/20= 150W RMS. But the specs sheet of the speakers said each speaker is a mere 8W and the sub is 20W. So, 8x5 + 20 = 60W . So, how can they even advertise as 150W(3000W PMPO). Even the peak wattage will be 120W and not 150W. They sold the speakers for Rs6,000. That a ripp and they gave incorrect info.
Now, i tried to look for the speakers on the philips site, guess what, they do not exist ! Now, did the people at pai get fake stuff ?? because i cant even find the mention of those speakers anywhere (i googled them and got junk).

Now after we installed all the things, the sound is pathetic. The hall is huge and even at max volume there is little sound.

Can i do anything about it ? can we go back to pai and ask them for a different model for all the reasons stated. Can we charge them with incorrect information in a consumer court ?

I am not sure about going to consumer court !!!
But sure that you can go and talk to them politely first to exchange the DVD player and Speakers as they are new still.

I cant say anything about the price of the TV as its the right of the seller to give it at his own price, one thing you can check is the MRP of that TV, IF it is less than 58,000 (which you gave) then you can try consulting a lawyer for that.

First go to them and talk to the retailer then if nothing works out then talk to the lawyer, when you are at that shop tell them if they are not solving the issue then you will go to the consumer court.

Hope your issue will be resolved soon...

But what if they said the MRP was Rs58,000 instead of Rs49,990 ?

Rajan, Don't assume everything by yourself. You should first speak to those guys first politely. BTW, where did you read about the prices?

Yes If the MRP is 49,990/- then they cant sell it for more. MRP on the box is the actual MRP not the price you get in paper so just confirm that and the you can go for the court.

Yes there is a Law. MRP = Maximum Retail Price which means the retailer cant sell it aboe this price. If he does then we can go to consumer court and file a case against them for that.

If the MRP is that much you can drag them to consumer court for selling at a higher price then the MRP and I can assure you that you will get your money back plus some compensation for being messed around.

    Provided you have the bill.

    Rajan,

    I sympathise with you.

About the 42" Full HD TV: Are you sure about the price vs. specs? I am not challenging you but I do not recollect any 42" TV (Full HD) tv sold at less that 50K. Most are 70K and above. Maybe it 36" or something.

Be it as it may, if the MRP is Rs. 49,990 and clearly marked, then you can take the sellers to court for overcharging.

About thr DVD player: There is nothing you can do about the DVD player. All that your mother is saying will be treated as hearsay in court. The salesman will simply deny ever making such claims. Your mother should have checked the ipod dock and all that in the name of demonstration. Also, HDMI cannot be used to connect to ipod (as yet).

The question remains whether you are satisfied with the DVD player. If not, you could exchange it.

About the speakers: You could say that you are not satisfied with the product and exchange it for a better product.

    ------------------

Ah! I forgot. This is a local reseller we are talking about. He may have written somewhere, no exchanges/refunds. But you could still take him to court. At least create a nuisance value, if nothing else.

    ------------------

By the way, why does your mother not trust your judgement? OK. I don't want to get to be personal - you may deny the answer to this. But I should like to inform all that such high cost purchases should not be made on an impulse. Think carefully, analyze products, pros and cons, etc. and then take the plunge.

    Dear Rajan

In the first place there is nothing like any empirical formula to convert from PMPO to RMS. Where did you get the info that by dividing by 20, we will get RMS. There is no such conversion.

@ Rajan, why don't you be specific of the Philips Model number and then write to Pai shop, with copy to Philips India for clarification.
also you can see the specifications in the document that comes with the specific piece.
It would not help by just saying some Philips 5.1 speaker system and DVD player.
Now a days all Philips material are coming as Chinese make.

Regarding the LG, i have a price for one model from site.
    LG 42LD460 42-inch LCD TV Price – Rs.53,990
please check the model what you got instead of telling a 42" etc
