Did you buy a device by the salesman at your doorstep selling a device which can go in any wall unit and save energy?

Is it one of those things which also was being sold on that teleshopping channel no tv? If so anything from them never works and is pointless buying!

I don't think it works in real worlds, in place of these electricity savers you can try using florescent tubes or can try to use energy efficiently and in better way like:

Don't leave home appliances on standby mode (turn off when not in use)

Avoid using washing machine dryer when it is really not required (In India we get good sunlight and weather is always good to make clothes dry in air)

Avoid using tubes and bulbs during day time and try to make best use of sun light/day light

I am sure still there are lot many other ways to save electricity

What kind of wall unit device is this? How will it save any electricity?

I may be wrong but this is just like some ad given by a diet product which says - take our formula everyday and loose 20 kg in 2 months. There are no shortcuts.

Just as there is no (real) substitute for exercise, there is no alternative to your own methods of saving electricity:
  • Switch of all electricals when not in use.
  • Change all your tubelights and incandescent lamps to tubelights with electronic chokes. This is even better than CFL. To get the same lumens as the standard tubelight (36W), you may need two CFLs of 20W each. The electronic choke tubelight will consume 30W and the choke consumes no power at all. Normal coil chokes in standard tubelights consume 18-20W plus they emit a column of smoke that darkens the wall.
  • In baths and toilets, switch to CFLs.
  • Do not use Fans at the same speed all the time. The regulator gets damaged and overused at the same speed and starts consuming more power.
  • If you have too many electronic gadgets on standby, together they will consume some power. Consider switching them off completely.
  • Switch to solar or gas powered water heaters. Govt. of India offers subsidised loans for installing solar water heaters. I was unable to install solar heater in my flat but by switching to gas water heater, my electric bill dropped by Rs. 800/- per month while at the same time the cylinder (Rs. 325/- or so) lasts 50-60 days. I am saving at least Rs. 600/- pm.

I was just going to ask the same thing. How can something you plug in save electricity?

Now I am very curious. I don't generally buy into claims like this, especially from door to door salesmen. Could be a total waste of money.

I think the appliance monitors current surge. And if any difference in current it uses power from its capacitors (as this appliance stores power for 10 seconds.). therefore other appliances work perfectly. The power is not wasted by them. This is German technology.

This is the explanation given by the salesmen. I am not sure about it. they may be and may not be correct.

The suggestions given by members are too good like being proactive and conservatively using electricity rather than believing that an applicance which itself consumes electricity when plugged can ever save electricity.

For truth visit this link

Make a power saving plug.
