    Question Suggest LCD TV

I want to by LCD TV for my parents. My budget range is Rs. 25,000 to 50,000. It will be mainly used to watch contents from DTH (Airtel digital TV ) . I think HD ready is sufficient than full HD considering price difference. Main requirement is good picture quality. For audio, is inbuilt system sufficient or should I have to purchase additional audio system. For external audio system i can spend rs 5,000 extra. Maximum Viewing distance available is 23 feet. I think screen size of 26" or more.
Please suggest me some good companies, screen sizes and models. I expect value for money purchase. Which purchase is cheaper - online or retail ? If online then suggest sites.

One thread is sufficient. But I will venture to answer your queries.

For the budget you mention, you may be able to get a 32" LCD. For larger sizes, you will have to dig deeper into your pocket (or bank account).

HD-ready will suffice at the size mentioned.

Spare the 5K. If necessary use it to buy a higher quality TV. What I mean is inbuilt audio is sufficient for TV purposes.

23 feet is too long a distance. But maximum viewing distance is of no significance. What will be the normal viewing distance? Some of your questions are answered here: http://www.indiabroadband.net/home-a...oosing-tv.html (Home Theatre Blues - Part 6 (a): Choosing the TV).

For purchasing, and if you are from India, online will not work cheaper. If you are from Maharashtra, Tuesday is the festival "Gudi Padwa". This is an important event in MH and also the beginning of the new year in the Hindu calendar. There are excellent deals going on all round the state. You should hurry.

I will not recommend any particular brand but any from Sony, Panasonic, LG or Samsung will suit you. All are good. Sony is expensive while LG has some of the best deals available to make your mouth water.

Its actually pretty easy, just that the projector runs a little hot and is bulky. We can easily make even a 1080p projector, but that will be really big and you cant carry it easily, but if you fix that on the ceiling, there is nothing better.

I will make it next to next week(after tests at college are over) myself, will post the guide here then.

    Question Questions

Now I think, I may purchase 32" LCD TV.
    I have 2 questions -
1] For 32" LCD TV, is there any significant difference in picture quality between HD ready & full HD. I think we will get HD contents from DTH in near [?] future. For me, full HD fits in my budget. For 32" LCD TV, minimum price difference between HD ready & full HD is around Rs. 8,000/- [?]. Is it worth to pay that Rs. 8,000/- extra for full HD ?
2] Can anyone rank the manufacture's of TV's available in India with respect to picture quality & sound ?

    Yes.

It is difficult to rank although most people end up buying either an LG or Samsung or Sony. You should visit the showroom and take a demo for yourself. And ask the salesperson to show you normal TV, i.e., DTH. Usually they show some blu-ray HD stuff that impresses everybody no end.

Also insist on having the remote yourself. Change the contrast/brightness settings. In the showroom, they adjust the brightness and contrast to the maximum/optimum level. Change setting and check.

Its good that you upped your budget. Plasma is a good choice, generally better picture quality and no more burn in issues.

    Is Panasonic Viera good?

Panasonic is probably the best for plasma. But please check their after sales services from firends, various forums and mouthshut.com. Next best bet would be Samsung.

Note that 42" plasma at 45~60K will be HD-ready (1366x768) and not full HD (1920x1080). Take this fact into cognizance.

    All the best.

    To just4kix & rajan1311,
    Thanks a lot.

I have purchased 42" plasma TV on 6th June 2010. It's Panasonic Viera THP42C10D (HD ready) for RS. 40,000/- (In Maharashtra). Cost includes shipping for a distance of about 10 km from a local TV dealer, wall mounting bracket (Angular) by company & its fitting by company person.

Warranty is for 1 year. Warranty card contains 4 service coupons for 1 year period. 1st coupon is for fitting the wall mounting bracket on the wall & demo of TV's various functions.
TV is working good. I am happy.
