    Default Mobile Thefts, IMEI-Procedures???

    Hi,

Its very common in NCR region, pick pocketing and mobile snatching,..etc.
What is the proper procedure to lodge a complaint, if the IMEI is known?

Also, please tell me, once the complaint is lodged, how is the mobile being traced? Is the IMEI number given to all mobie service providers in India? What if the stolen mobile is smuggled to neighbouring countries like Nepal or Bengladesh??

only if the thief gets caught, see basically the thing about tracking ur mobile using imei is that when u make a call ur imei no is attached with it so when someone steals ur phone and changes the sim card and makes a call the imei no is same but cell no is different so that's how he can be tracked its even possible to track if the guy changes service providers because most of the cos have interrelated ops like roaming etc but service provider has to set the entire tracking centre employ people and acquire equipments for it and in the end the co. is not making any profit after tracking your cell phone so unless the govt makes it mandatory its not possible.also the legal hassles to get your cell phone back are so much that you would prefer to buy a new one unless its a vertu

@vinit, What you say is partly true. In India, if you loose your mobile, it is more or less lost forever and the thief is the gainer.

But that does not mean that the stolen mobile cannot be tracked. It is just that the cell service operators are too lazy to do so. Also the huge subscriber base makes it difficult to track the phone. Abroad, if you loose your cell phone, you can inform the service provider and they block the IMEI number. The number is blocked across all operators. So a stolen cell becomes more or less a dead duck.

Once my friend's mobile handset was lost. Hoping against hope, he called on his number from my phone to check if someone picks it up. He was pleasantly surprised when hearing "Hello" from the other end and signaled me a thumbs up. For a moment we were relieved that since the number is still working, it should be in safe hands. (Normally people throw the SIM card away and keep the phone in the pocket. Isn't it? LOL)

My friend said- "Bhaiya, I've lost my mobile in the morning. It appears that you've found it. Please let me know where we may meet."
I thought chalo, my friend will get back his beloved phone. After all, he was so concerned about the raunchy messages from his girl falling in the wrong hands.

However, destiny had some other plans for his mobile phone containing full doses of viagra for his libido. After couple of minutes, I heard some pleading voice from my friend's mouth. Next, there was frustration. Then, he started threatening the person on phone... about police, ministers etc.. Finally, my friend began to use some profanities which I wasn't used to hear from him.

Seeing that nothing is working, my friend disconnected the phone. I asked him what happened to your phone? What did the person say?

He replied, "That F#@&$% said nothing." I tried again, "Then, why were you abusing him?"

He said that since the beginning of their short but nasty conversation, the person with his mobile was laughing. Can you believe the guts of the man? He had the stolen/lost phone. Still he picked the call of the handset's owner. Then, laughed all the way through that conversation, like hahahaha... hahahaha... hahahaha...

It was agonizingly humiliating for my friend and ironically bravado from the phone's new owner.

What's the use of that ?

Anyway you can block the old SIM. What's the point of blocking the entire number ?
