Thoughts on a 3D TV

Ok the whole 3D experience is very amazing and fun to say the least, but when you go out and purchase a 3D TV is it really worth it?

Full HD movies are costly anyone, I mean not majorly but they are on the higher side and just think about purchasing 3D movies. Plus not all movies are available on 3D, so there would be a limitation to what movies you can and cant watch in 3D.

If you are like a billionaire then there is no question about whether its worth buying it not, because it would be something affordable for you and if its a hobbie or ambition then you can easily indulge your money into it.

But thinking aside, what are your thoughts about a 3D TV?

The idea of 3D TV is good, but it also matter how much money you have to throw and how big your house is. Obviously the bigger your house the more money you probably have to spare. Its not a neccessity to have a 3D TV, but yes if your into all this tech stuff and having the best of things and its in your budget then why not go for it.

Ditto to what Preeti has posted.......but realistically thinking how many 3D movies are there, a few maybe??? Personally I think that watching a 3D movie in a cinema hall is much better than your own home, because you would need an extra large room to have enough space between you and the TV otherwise you wouldnt really enjoy watching a 3D movie.

I can write and write and write forever on this topic. But to surmise:

- 3D TV is worth if you really like 3D
- 3D TV requires you to wear 3D glasses and this can sometimes be a pain (espcially for a person like me who wears prescription glasses)
- 3D effect is enthralling but only in large TVs; bare minimum recommended size is 46" for the deep immesive experience (my own TV is 50")
- there are two types of 3D TVs - active 3D and passive 3D; read about them before deciding to buy
- You do not need a large room; I watch my 50" TV in my bedroom of 14' x 11' and viewing distance is 10'
- Original 3D movies are very costly; I purchased the blu-ray 3D disc of The Hobbit for Rs. 1274/- but "other options" are available
- Contrary to belief, there are quite a few 3D movies available
- IMAX 3D documentaries are a real treat to watch, e.g. IMAX Space Station 3D, IMAX Deep Sea 3D, IMAX Grand Canyon 3D

To watch 3D blu-ray discs you need a 3D blu-ray player (blu-ray and not blue ray - without the 'e' in blue).

Did you not notice the first picture and my own post #4 earlier? It is a 50" 3D plasma TV. I got the TV and a 3D blu-ray player worth 13K for a total bundled offer Rs. 105K.

The TV itself was 92K. It is a 50" very large screen. It has 3D and all the smart apps features (which I honestly don't care about). It was rated as the best TV overall (value for money) for 2012 by CNet. Is it really a lot? If you only consider the total money paid then it may appear so. But everything taken into perspective, it is real value for money.

I dont own a 3D TV of my own but one of rich friends has one, and to be honest it is amazing when you watch a good movie in 3D, so if you are someone who is a movie buff then it is movie well worth spent.

It is not just about money it is about interest as well, if your into movies then it is good, as 3D is only available for movies currently. I have not looked into the costs but how much would the cheapest of cheapest but good brand 3D TV cost?

3D TV's are very impressive, and like some time ago 3D was not as popular it is more popular now, and a lot of people are watching 3D movies as well as DVD's being available in 3D as well. It all matters on affordability, is one can afford it then I assume they would go for it, and also interest also matters, for those who are not interested in movies, then getting a 3D TV is of no use.

passive 3d glasses are anyway no more a burden than your regular casual sunglasses, and if you use active glasses from Xpand, you'll be surprised at how relaxed (active) 3d viewing could be!

I think another factor on thoughts of a 3D TV are that the place where you have your TV needs to be in a big area, it is not suitable for a small room.
