The hybrid car you are talking about is not available in India.

Yes the new Honda civic looks cool and is really good to drive as well but the cost is a bit too much .. You get the same car in USA at a much cheaper price...

Government of India needs to sort out their attitude towards taxation and let Indian enjoy cheaper prices as every one else does in the rest of the worl.

Car is not a luxury any more but the government of India is still living in the 18th century I suppose

I have driven the new Honda Civic and i would say that it is really a great car. It looks really nice, interior as well as exterior. I would say that Honda has done a ggood homework before launching this car.

Admin, I do not think that we would have any cut on custom and excise duties any time sooner and if this happens then i am sure that car prices would fall minimum 40 %.

I have driven the new Honda Civic but the main thing i dont like about this car is that it has a very odd looking speedo meter which i dont like and more over it is very far away which was distracting when i was driving this beauty.

Honda really have perfect cars. There is no dout about this thing and this car is just a piece of perfection of the same. Civic have a smooth driving but the only negative thing is that it have a very low average.

I own a civic for a year now and it is a pleasure to drive this beauty with no problems whatsoever. All aspects and handling of the car are smooth. Interiors are nice, the brakes are good, the accelaration is superb, the AC works well, got a in dash 6 CD changer with AM/FM. The speedometer looks cool, and has luxurious interiors and ample space. I have managed to touch 170 kmph and it felt like a breeze. If you got the money to spare and are looking for a car in this range, there is absolutely no reason not to go for the civic. I dont see any other car in this range which can beat the civic.

    Just wanted to add this...

The Honda hybrid car was available in USA back in 2001 , I saw it an New Jersey back then and it used to cost around $16500 at that time.
India is not going to get one of these any time soon as I dont think there is a market for it in India yet.

There is one company called Reva or something like that which makes battery run cars and they only manage to sell a few of them every year. Its range is only 80 Kms on one charge and it costs Rs 4 Lakh +

Now that the Civic Hybrid is launched the dampner is the exorbitant cost - 22+ lakhs. The cost is so high because the government has only two customs duty policies -

    a) one for imported and CKD cars @ 105%
    b) the other where only some parts (30% or less) are imported and rest made in India. The duty varies as per the size/engine specs.

Now the question is - is someone who will pay 22+ lakhs for a car be really worried about petrol prices?

It is high time that government announces new duty structure for environment friendly cars. They should also give a special rebate in Income Tax for such buyer (like they do in US).

Some general impressions on the Civic:

    a) Great and really sexy looking - probably the best looking car on the Indian roads right now
    b) Completely flat floor - no hump in the middle of the floor
    c) Futuristic instrumentation panel
    d) If going for the 1.8V model (MT or AT), you (almost) do not need to buy any accessories

    e) Greatest draback is ground clearance. At 170mm it may compare favourably with others but because of its length, this will scrape every bump on the road. ( On the other hand, you can coat the under of the car with titanium steel abbrasive material and then all the bumps on the road will vanish away. Nice public service )
    f) The digital speedometer can be a distraction at night.

Some people I know told that the mileage in Pune traffic is 9~10 km/litre; on highway it jumps to 12~13 (with AC).

I would just like to add that the Honda Civic is a really nice car and looks really goos, but i think it should be driven in good areas where there is less traffic otherwise you cant really enjoy driving it.

I may buy one - right now I am deciding between Altis (not seen variants), Civic-1.8MT or Innova-V. Also my employer is yet to announce the lease plan.

I would defiantly recommend Innova, as i have sat in one, and it gives the most comfortable drive, no matter what the road is like. Because the car is quite high its good and gives a good feeling. Its also very spacious and is a car which is worth spending some money on.

If I would have been able to afford a civic then I would have gone for a civic.. Innova coz it was in my budget and the running expenses are extremely low and 3 years service is included with the purchase so it turns out much cheaper then anything in that segment.

Having said that these are two different things and a Civic is a Civic .. Innova doesnt come anywhere close apart from one thing that on roads with potholes Innova will run like a charm and if you are in a civic you might end up touching the speed breakers if nothing else due to low ground clearence .. althought it doesnt really break anything.

Cost-wise, Civic will be 2L more than the Innova. In those 2L, I can purchase a lot of diesel and still the Innova will continue to run cheaper than the Civic. So it makes sense to go for Innova. But I am buying under lease plan and the details are not with me. All I wish is to get maximum tax concessions out of the lease plan and hence Civic. But I shall wait till all the details are available.

But for sheer driving pleasure, Civic AT with peddle or Civic MT shift can't be beaten. I heard that Civic AT gives only 9 km/l in AT and that comes down to 7 km/l if one starts using the peddle shift. Civic MT gives 10~11 km/l, if I am not wrong.

Honda CIVIC is good for smooth and speedy driving..
    Its slim and long...
Its a bad idea to buy this car and run in **** roads.

I personally have drove CIVIC. It feels nothing at great speeds as well..

Makes you feel,as if you are driving a Lemosin.

What can I say? Everything inside of the Civic is like a pilot's cockpit. So futuristic and advanced. There is one issue (not a problem) with the digital speedometer. It can become very glaring in the night but there is a brightness control to reduce it.

Even the double-din music player is sheer class.

You are talking about the brightness of the meter which could put strain and create problems while driving at night??
