Default Idea 3G only shows 2G signal

I have recently brought an Idea 3G dongle and I seem to getting a problem with it. When I first started using it I was getting the 3G signal, but now there is no 3G signal at all and instead I am getting 2G signal. I have tried the connection in different places in the house, but it still shows up as connected as a 2G connection. Do you think its something wrong with the dongle, or that the fact that I wont get 3G in my home and basically I have wasted my money?

To be honest the problem can be anyone you have mentioned. It may a problem with the dongle, which you can do something about, if it is that you can not get 3G in your location anymore due to a building blocking signals or a tower taken down then unfortunately you can not do anything about it. You can call up Idea and ask them to change the dongle for you, this way you will also find out where the problem is.

Mostly because you're not in their 3G coverage zone? I am from Mumbai and I've personally found Idea to have a lot of coverage holes in here. Works much better in Gujarat though.

Try changing the setting from automatic to 3G only and see if it hooks on to the 3g network or if not then try changing the location of your modem. If you do find good signal strength at an odd location in your house like a balcony or something then just get a tiny wifi router that takes a usb modem and hook them up to create a wifi network and you can then use the wifi signal to connect all your machines.

2G signals are normally stronger then 3G bot loosing 3G signals all together indicates some problem with the local twer or your modem. I cannot think of anything else.

I also face the same situation in my house and I get into 3G only for a limited time. Then it automatically change back to 2G which is actually slowing down net surfing. Is there a way we can stick to 3G or is it because I am in a low coverage area? Due to frequent switch over from 2G to 3G and vice versa, I am unable to use net sometimes as it freezes the entire system.

I think even 2G is better if we get a constant supply instead of getting changed it in between.
