Default Why my Idea 3G dongle does not work when I use extension cable?

I use Idea mobile broadband service at home and the network coverage is very bad in my location. To get a good reception I tried to use a USB extension cable with my dongle. But it keeps on connecting and disconnecting. I just wanted to know if there is any relation between connectivity and length of cable connecting the dongle?

Yes there is! I don't remember exactly but there is an organization defining the max permissible length. I think for USB its 3m.

buy any open market wifi dongle and use your existing SIM with it. That way you can place the dongle where the signal is at its best.

To be frank, I could not get what you are referring to by the term "open market WiFi dongle". Did you mean the dongle which is available in the open market or the one in which SIMs of various telecom players can be used. So, in case of those open market WiFi dongles, can we use any length of cables as we wish?

Just waiting for your clarification before looking for a dongle to buy. I think that would be really helpful to me. Thanks for your time.

Open market means one which is not locked to a particular operator's SIM. These dongles also act as wifi router. wifi works wireless, so no cable to be attached. All you need is a power source, which can be in built (as in case of some models) or externally provided through a power bank/USB charger.

Thanks a lot @panchabhut for this valuable suggestion. Now in my existing dongle I am not able to use any other operator's SIM. But I can use any SIM of Idea, one of my friends has done the changes for that. But that is of no help to me as Idea got a very low coverage in my area. It would be wonderful if I can try more than one operator's SIM in the dongle. I would definitely check it out now, thanks for updating.

By the way, is it advisable to buy it online though eBay, if it's available?
