With the domestic Direct-to-Home (DTH) market set for an explosive growth due to falling rates and entry of new players, the Discovery Channel plans to bring in the US-based Discovery Communication Inc’s new media offerings into the Indian DTH market.
These will include new channels, Discovery-on-Demand and Discovery Wireless and broadband services to Indian viewers. Discovery has recently kick-started the commissioning of India-centric programming too. “Globally, Discovery has a plethora of offerings for its viewers. We are in talks with both Dish TV and Tata Sky to bring in some of our advanced services to India,” Deepak Shourie, managing director, Discovery India told FE.
Discovery-on-Demand is being beamed to 20 million DTH viewers in US and UK as a special package of 80-hours-a-month of the best of Discovery. For the wireless devices, it is already delivering a host of branded content including long-form video, games, ring-tones and wallpaper to wireless content providers.
