ok... i have a very basic query ... may sound silly ...

if postpaids connections are comparatively cheaper than prepaid ones why is it so that all services providers stress more on giving out postpaid connections and try to convince prepaid users to postpaid?

Because in postpaid, there is a monthly commitment. If u throw away your prepaid sim, no service provider is going to question u. But even if u throw away your postpaid sim, the provider can bill u every month without fail. The rental will be taken.

absolutely. just go through the process of surrendering a post-paid connection once, and u would realise the difference.

Postpaid connections are cheaper if you are making large amount of calls, whereas as prepaid is cheaper if you are using a lifetime connection just to receive calls and dial few numbers.

With Virgin prepaid rates and Reliance CDMA Rs39 STV coming into the picture, the situation is no longer that simple.

    Virgin Prepaid default plan
    Local Call per day : First 3 min : Re.1, from 4th min 50p
    STD per day: First 3 min Rs.1.50, 4th min - 33rd min 50p, 34th min onwards Rs.1.50
Incoming credit 1p per 6 seconds (max. Rs.3/call)

Reliance pre-paid connection with Rs.39 STV (valid for 30 days)
First minute of each call : local Call Re.1/STD Rs.1.50
second minute onwards for each call : local/STD 50p
    Both valid for all operator.

Now, a high volume caller with long duration per call can select R-CDMA and a high volume caller with short duration calls can select Virgin and get expenditure similar to if not less than a postpaid plan.

lol thats why they treat the postpaid customers with extreme care ... i have vodafone postpaid for an year now... never had any issues ever....
interestingly, vodafone's postpaid subscriber percentage is the highest among the lot... i remember the prepaid days, always out of balance... postpaid gives u peace if u r with a good provider. i would never go in for prepaid ever again.

True. The respect and reverence enjoyed with a postpaid connection can never be attained with a prepaid connection.

But in the end it all boils down to the best suited connection according to personal needs..

I have used postpaid before, i agree postpaid customers have higher priority. still its not worth it, if you are use less. people should get Postpaid connections only if their monthly bill is greater than 500.

    else go for prepaid

how can you send more than 200 messages in a day!!! do you start sending messages with the first light of the morning!! ?

yes, this is true that postpaid customers enjoy certain privileges but it boils down to an individual's need and comfort ... many people dont like to pay bills every month within a specific date etc ....

Another reason i am sticking with postpaid is that i can make part payments. Suppose i am charged 3k. I can make part payments of 500/- every week, yet continue using their service as desired.. With prepaid i get only a maximum of 7 days and that with restrictions (incoming calls only) before i recharge my account.

    200?? i think thats a 75 sms average?

yup ... my conversations were like, i would sms 'how' in one message, 'are' in another... and so on ! but that is why my thumbs took a hit, as i used both of them... something like 'blackberry thumbs' (without a blackberry ), so had to stop, now they're fine.

there were some mistakes in my life because of those cards though... i'm glad they stopped them.

When i used to get 4k messages free every month from Vodafone (during my college days), i used to link my SE phone with the PC through bluetooth. Then i would fireup MyPhoneExplorer software and start composing and sending messages like anything

    Ah...those were the days..

 nice way of utilizing the hard to use up free SMSs .... there was a fried of mine in college - he created a user grp in his phone. the group consisted of almost all his contacts and he used to send at least 100 different smss per day to everyone using the send all in grp facility. i dont remember the exact scheme - it was a tata indicom connection as far as i remember .... almost 4 year old story ..

The scheme which i enjoyed was also unique.

We need to recharge for 330/- every month, for which we will get full TT excluding taxes

With this recharge we get 2000 mins v2v free, 1000 mins v2others free. Call charges were v2v 10p and v2others 30p. Also 4000 natioanl level messages were provided.

Now comes the juicy part. Every 6 months they would credit 2000/- to the account for free!! Yes u read that right...FREE.

The offer was initially given by BPL Mobile, then Hutch too gave the offer. When Vodafone bought Hutch, the offers were withdrawn

    amazing offer...

i hope VF comes up with even 10% of such offers in kolkata circle.

VF offers us full talktime only on Rs.333 recharge. no other such bonuses.
