VSNL entering South African market
People would be surprised that VSNL, which has failed to make a mark in their home market in the past couple of years, are now entering the South African market for extending their services network.
The Tata owned telecom company has said that it would launch fixed line telecom services in South Africa by June-July this year. N Srinath, Executive Director, VSNL said in a statement: “We got the license in December last year. Project work is on and we hope to start service in June-July, 2006.”
VSNL already owns 26 per cent stake in South African telecom operator SNO and they are planning to invest around USD 1 Billion in this project. The project would take around 4 years to complete.
Srinath added about VSNL’s plan for the South African market: “We are partnering with cable operators. We have already entered into an agreement with about 2,000 cable operators across the country to share their network.”
