Rep Power: 12 | Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is taking great initiatives to keep its existing subscribers happy and to attract new subscribers to its state owned telecom service. Recently, the profit level of BSNL reduced drastically due to the high level of competition through out the country. We have been seeing great improvement since then in the quality of the services offered by BSNL. They have revamped their customer service team with newly trained customer service agents. They have opened up new customer service centers and come up with many new and interesting packages in all their services. Among their initiatives is the recent effort on launching wireless broadband service in Goa. BSNL launched its wireless broadband service in Goa on 29 June, 2009. BSNL is the largest telecommunication provider of India. Besides that, they are a state owned corporation and they have access to all the facilities and funds that are not easily accessible to the private telecom providers. However, they have put these to good use this time by launching one of the most wanted services, wireless broadband in Goa. Initially, it is said the BSNL is targeting around 10,000 subscribers to its broadband wireless services in Goa in its first phase. This is certainly not a magic figure and for a telecom company that is as large as BSNL this figure is a very low target. BSNL does not have its own equipment to support this service and it is collaborating with the US based company for getting the required infrastructure in place. BSNL is partnering with the company called Soma Networks Inc to handle the infrastructure for the telecom provider. This is a new partnership and so far, BSNL has not partnered with Soma Networks Inc at any level. With the help of the equipment they procure from Soma Networks BSNL is hoping to offer seamless broadband service to the subscribers in Goa. This is the first phase of BSNL’s experiments on wireless broadband services. If it is successful, this project will be extended to other states as well. The next two states in pipeline are Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. BSNL is striving towards providing its customers with high quality service to both urban customers and rural customers. Their goal is to make the latest telecom services affordable without compromising on the quality of the services. If they compromise on the quality of the services, they will lose their customers easily to their competitors. To implement its new wireless broadband facility to Goa, 25 towers have been installed to ensure steady signals through out Goa. There will be an enthusiastic response from the customers in Goa to this new service. Wireless broadband in Goa will make the mobility of people more flexible. Moreover, with a wireless broadband connection throughout the city, it will attract more business class visitors as well as tourists on long vacation. As more and more people run 70% of their business transactions and communication online, this new service from BSNL will increase visitors to Goa. |

| Good news. Private players are somewhat limited to cities. BSNL has absolutely no competition if it is not an urban / Semi Urban area. Their services has improved a lot. A bit change in attitude will do the trick. |
