Rep Power: 10 | Many companies are paying a higher price for the calls they make from the office to mobile phones and any savings made by traditional Least Cost Routing companies are drastically reduced by the ever growing traffic to mobile phones. This is where the Fixed Cellular Terminals (FCTs) come to the rescue of companies. The use of FCTs is helping many companies save up to 50 per cent on the cost of calls to mobiles by using the tariffs available from the GSM mobile operators. A Fixed Cellular Terminal is a box that contains a number of SIM cards, based on the user requirements. The numbers of the company’s mobile phones are pre-programmed into the FCT. It is located just alongside the telephone exchange, diverting calls made from fixed lines to mobiles through SIM cards, rather through the fixed line telephone exchange, turning them into mobile-to-mobile calls. This product is suitable for companies that make a lot of calls from fixed line office phones to mobile phones of their own employees. The benefit of FCT is simply cost, where the average cost of a call from fixed line to mobile phone can be brought down by almost 71 per cent. If a company is calling mobile numbers from its own network, then it can take advantage of lower cost as the SIM card could be included in a package in which the cost of the call could be either very low or would be free of charge. However, if a company is also calling other mobile numbers from its fixed lines, then it would be prudent to invest in a Cross-Network Tariff scheme which offers a bundle of inclusive minutes for a fixed line rental. The company can also make calls to any mobile phone number as part of the bundled calls, and then transfer all other mobile phone traffic through an extra SIM card and FCT which is on a Cross-Network Bundle Tariff. Fixed Cellular Terminals available in the market include ‘F251m’, the Ericsson Fixed Cellular Terminal Triple Band for PBX applications from Ericsson, and ‘TPT2000 FCT’, the GSM multi-line router from TPT Limited. Other manufacturers of FCTs include Gainwise Technology Co. and Nokia. These terminals are a flexible and cost-effective solution for connecting the phone system to the digital wireless GSM network. |
