A. Raja, the Telecom Minister should be happy. He once again become minister after his alleged involvement in the so called spectrum scandal which made the ministry loose crores of Rupees as license fees. Now the 3G spectrum auction is to take place.
Department of Telecom is confused that how many blocks should be auction. The latest talk is about 2 blocks and put it into action through successful bidders. According to a senior ministry official,

The government should auction two blocks of 2x5 MHz in 2.1 GHz band (1969-1979 MHz) and immediately assign (the spectrum) after the completion of the process to the successful bidders and take the complete bid value within ten days of the close of auction

Finance minister and EGoM Pranab Mukherjee is of the stand that there should be 3 blocks and should be put into operation by winner as early as September 2010. Government earlier wanted to auction 4 blocks, but due to unavailability of the spectrum it couldn't be finalized.
