UAE’s second largest telecoms operator du said a maintenance activity on a cable route between Alexandria and Palermo from midnight July 25 to July 31 would not impact its network’s national or international voice calls from mobile and fixed lines.

The cable maintenance activity by the SMW-4 sub-marine cable consortium ‘is a preventative measure to ensure the continuity of service and avoid long outages that would result from a failure in the repeater,’ the telecoms operator said.

“While there will be no complete loss of internet, some customers may experience a slower Internet connection. In order to minimise the impact of this scheduled maintenance and to restore lost capacity, we will be taking measures to ensure that alternate routes from within our multi-cable systems are used during the cable maintenance period from July 25 – July 31,” the operators said in a statement.

“Our teams will be doing all they can to ensure that the effects of this maintenance are as little as possible ,” it said.
