Qualcomm officials to visit India to talk with CDMA operators in the country

Qualcomm Worldwide Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Jacobs is scheduled to visit India on a trip with some other officials. He would be holding talks with Indian telecom minister Maran and the heads of CDMA operators in the country.

The company has not yet commented on what they are planning to discuss on their visit to the country. However, market analysts believe that the visit is mainly related to the Reliance’s plans to shift to GSM technology in the near future.

Reliance is one of the largest CDMA players in the Indian market and it would be a big loss for Qualcomm if they move their operations on the GSM technology. The company was also criticized by the Indian telecom minister who said that the royalty charged by Qualcomm was hindering the growth of CDMA telephony in India.

CDMA technology is also used by other telecom operators in the country including BSNL, MTNL and Tata.
