    Default Personal or Direct trading

I came across this term in some post, which site or company offers this. I want that I don't have to call someone and rely on his mercy to buy or sell stocks, I just want to do it myself. How can I do it? Is it more risky or costly compared to Telephone Trading? Advise

You can do it using websites such as ICICI Direct, Sharekhan, ILFS, etc.

What does direct trading mean actually? Does it mean that you deal directly with another trader? I wonder if it is too risky for us to deal with people we never know exactly who he is. I would prefer the conventional system.

There are many sites for online trading but I am unaware of the security level in trading on these sites. Does anyone use online trading?

I can speak for ICICI Direct. It is extremely safe. The site forces you to change the trading account (demat) password every 15 days (as per SEBI guidelines). Account is locked after 3 unsuccessful tries. And one has to go through a thorough verification process to unlock it and get the new password. The new password is sent by courier to your home address. The site itself provides an option of virtual keyboard to enter password.

Yes I have recently received a mailer where there was a fake page of icicidirec. The mail provided how to stay alert and watch for https before logging in. Although icicidirect is extremely safe people should take precationary measure before logging in and check whether it is a official site.

Its just the annual fee and whatever the brokerage is when you buy or sell stocks.

There is no other monthly charge with icici direct. But its always better to check with the bank itself instead of believing me as things might have changed yesterday or day before which I might know about.

I have been using Sharekhan for online trading & I find it quite user friendly including the reports generation, portfolio, money transaction. It is safe, you have to change password every 15days.
the problem for me aroused as it was not possible for me to be online entire day. So whenever I had to sell stock at market rate, I had to call at customer service to place sale order, this affects selling price for short calls.
Hence I closed the account & now opened an account at our local Angel-fire traders where trader keeps an eye on my stocks while updating me by sms.
p.s I dont mind as my investment is comparatively low. If you are investing good amount, i would suggest to use sharekhan or icici online trading services.
